We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra Powell & Reginald Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Casandra Powell & Reginald Robertson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting “The B Spot” restaurant was to bring back that family dining feel to breakfasts. Sometimes we get away from the simplicity of things like just sitting down eating breakfast in a laid back atmosphere with anot too complex menu. Also for me, I am a single mother of 5 and one of the things my children and I always enjoy is dining out and of course having a family that big the cost can get pretty high. What I find nowadays is how expensive dining out can be even for breakfast so we want people, family, and friends, to be able to come enjoy a great breakfast or brunch at a reasonable price.
What should our readers know about your business?
The B Spot Restaurant is a full service restaurant specializing in breakfast and brunch. Our goal to open is by Thanksgiving holiday. The thing that will set us apart is reasonable prices but also our atmosphere. It has not been a totally easy journey trying to get the restaurant open but overall it has been a great experience. Our biggest challenge has been trying to obtain funding, so far we’ve self funded. There is not much availability for start up funding and for the funding thats available it is very difficult to obtain. We haven’t allowed anything to discourage us. If something doesn’t work out we just figure out a plan and move forward so that we can get the restaurant open sooner then later.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so many things to do in Atlanta or in one of the surrounding cities. Of course, once The B Spot is open they should definitely visit us, but beyond that we don’t have a specific list because it’s just that much stuff to do. I typically just Google things to do in Atlanta most times and you will get more then enough ideas. Reggie is actually from Atlanta so he usually knows where to go at any given moment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Pinky Cole, founder and owner of Slutty Vegan. That woman is a genius and I am always intrigued by woman who push through life to pursue their passion and dreams. I haven’t officially met her in person as of yet but I have watched her since she got her first food truck and have seen how God has done a great thing in her life and business and she now owns multiple brick and mortar chain Slutty Vegan spots. Those are the type of women that inspire me. I’d also love to give a shout-out to my business partner Reginald Robertson who sat at breakfast one morning listening to me complain about prices to dine out. I then start to talk about all kinds of ideas of how I wanted to open my own restaurant. After that conversation I begin doing research, typed up a business plan, and told him I wanted to pursue opening a restaurant he was fully supportive of my dream and vision and just as excited and we decided from that moment to become business partners. From that dining out moment, we know have “The B Spot Breakfast, Brunch, & Bar”.
