Meet Kristen Lee MA, LPC | Therapist & Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Lee MA, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success, and the success of my brand, is who I am as an individual. My business is very closely tied to my person because, not only am I the face of my My Awesome Coach, I am also the primary person providing services. How I carry myself both in the world and in front of my clients is important. I pride myself on building a strong rapport with each of my clients. Strong rapport is the key to building a therapeutic relationship. Everything else is secondary. People sense when you are genuine and when you have their best interest at heart. Mental health is not a field where shiny marketing can mask poor service. People appreciate having a therapist or a coach who is truly vested in their success. My desire to see my clients succeed, directly correlates with the success of my business. Their wins are my wins.

What should our readers know about your business?
My Awesome Coach is a company that provides a new age therapeutic and life coaching experience for individuals, couples and groups who think, and live, outside of the box. I often hear, “Wow! This is sooooo not what I expected!” This is due to the negative stereotypes that have been placed on my industry. Therapy does not have to be a dry, boring, melancholy experience. It can be light, solution-focused, and humorous. I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life. I work with adults, kids, families, athletes, artists and corporations. I currently have clients in 11 different countries. My favorite aspect of my job is how broad my therapeutic interactions are. It provides me with insight from industries, vantage points, and lifestyles that are vastly different from what is the norm, while widening my worldview and further sharpening my skills.
My Awesome Coach also offers creative and exciting workshops that boost morale and provide psychoeducation to corporate staff, and/or members of the community. We have partnered with a number of schools and community organizations to volunteer time and programming, enriching the lives of students and community members with coping and life skills. Giving back is a fundamental feature of My Awesome Coach. My Company exists to be of service to the community. I know I cannot help everyone myself, but through the reach of the Company and my firm belief in behavioral contagion, I feel that I am making a lasting positive impact.
I began the life coaching aspect of my business before finishing my Master’s degree in Counseling. I would acquire clients through networking events, and by positioning myself in social circles that could benefit from my services. When I began my therapy career as a solo-practitioner, it wasn’t easy. I was fortunate to have the assistance of a couple of wonderful, seasoned therapists that took a chance on me. They allowed me to share office space and gain clients through them. It was a bit rocky for me in the beginning, because in my field when you are young, people question whether you have enough life experience to actually help them. I proved that I had all of the education, interpersonal skills, and competence necessary to provide life changing assistance… and from there, word of mouth has put me in a position where I am frequently at capacity with clients.
I believe that giving back and putting myself in positions of service to those in the community has helped my business be successful. I developed and implemented a series called “Adulting 101”. “Adulting 101” was a place for women in their 20’s to come, share their experiences, and learn about life skills, such as finances, and how to make it in this ever-changing world. I own a “decompression booth” that I set up at parks and at the Grant Park Farmer’s Market. There I would offer a space for people to talk, vent, and learn coping skills for anxiety and stress, for free. In addition, I offer a number of free and discounted kids’ programs, where kids learn about emotions and healthy ways to manage them.
One thing I have realized, is the importance of being the best human that you can be. I believe that life is intricately designed, and that all events, people, interactions, etc., are intertwined, creating a beautiful 5D tapestry of existence. As I view the world through this perspective, I give every interaction positive energy, believing that this creates a ripple effect of kindness. If I am a beacon of goodness, then I am doing my part in making the world a better place, today, and for generations to come. So, I encourage others to choose kindness and care in their interactions with all they come in contact with.
(Side-note: I know that sounded super cheesy, but also, I legit stand by that statement)
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to host the best time ever, the itinerary would be food and fun intensive. We would have to brunch at Barney’s and if we were celebrating something special, we would order the Mansa Musa Tower Experience. For a laid back BBQ outing, we would go to Fat Matt’s and indulge in fall off the bone ribs. We would absolutely make reservations at Steak Market to be thrilled by their unique table-side drink and steak presentations.
If we are in the mood for a grungy, out of the box, fun time… Wednesday night at MJQ would be where we would dance the night away to the best music of the past few decades. However, for a more mainstream evening, we would party at Havana Club. I would also recommend that we staycation at The Hotel at Avalon, for rest and easy access to food and shopping.
Of course we would have to do the basic Atlanta tourism things, like visiting The World of Coke, The Georgia Aquarium, the Beltline, the High Museum of Art, and Illuminarium After Dark. However, because I enjoy all things outdoors, we would probably Shoot the Hooch, go zip lining at Treetop Quest, ride horses at SOOFA Ranch and enjoy an ATV ride at Clover Land Ranch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shoutout J. Bailey of Eaglestream Media. I have utilized Eaglestream Media for business consulting, web design and SEO optimization. My business was my vision, but he pushed me to take my ideas to the next level. He encouraged me to create a solid business plan, has provided me with fantastic insight into what is trending in the business world and created a website that has generated more traffic than I can fulfill. As a therapist, I know my trade, but I do not have the time nor business background to keep current with the fast pace of modern technology. Eaglestream has allowed me to focus on helping my clients and day to day operations, while he ensures my business is in keeping with top industry standards. J. Bailey is an excellent resource and a wealth of knowledge that can help anyone drive their business to its fullest potential.
