We had the good fortune of connecting with Troop Brand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Troop, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is diversification. As a musician, there are some who believe you should focus on one thing at a time but as I continue to navigate through my own creative space, I’ve realized that diversifying your brand is what makes it stick with your target audience. When someone hears my name, Troop Brand, I want them to think of a brand that’s bigger than just me as a musician.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a multi-genre musician specializing in genres such as hip-hop/rap, R&B, alternative and more. I’ve collaborated with other musical acts such as Far East Movement, Kota the Friend, Cool Company and more and have had my music featured on television shows such as MTV’s Teen Mom, Netflix’s Sneakerheads, ABC’s Grownish and others.

I think what sets me apart is I carry myself more as a brand than I do an artist. I curate an event called Trap Sushi that’s an anime-inspired party featuring a live sushi chef, DJ, vendors and more, but I also have a beer named after one of my singles, Waves in the Clouds, that was produced and distributed by Monday Night Brewing. Having my hand in a little bit of everything is what makes Troop Brand so expansive.

I’m proud of my musical and branding accomplishments, but I’m most excited for what the future will hold for me. My goal is to continue securing brand partnerships, expanding Trap Sushi to other cities, and releasing more music.

Getting to where I’m at today took a lot of long nights, dedication, and mental and financial investment. It hasn’t been the easiest road, but it’s by far been the most rewarding. Having a supportive team in my corner who believes in me has gotten me far in my career. The biggest lesson I’ve taken away from my journey is to surround yourself around those who are just as excited if not more excited about the work you do than you are. If your team is passionate, you’ll succeed.

I want the world to know that as a musician, you don’t need to wait until you’re “big” to take advantage of partnerships and collaborations. Monday Night Brewing has been of my largest partnerships to date, and has opened numerous doors for me. Having my music and my likeness featured in a Patron Tequila commercial was one of my most surprising partnerships, but also turned out to be one of my most rewarding. Troop Brand is a musician, an event curator, an actor, a creative, but most importantly, a brand. Finding my target audience while also playing off of my own interests has really helped me mold myself into who I want to be, and how I want others to see me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It would be odd for me to say I throw this amazing event called Trap Sushi and leave out going to a sushi restaurant off an itinerary. I’m definitely taking my best friend to one of my favorite sushi spots in the city, and that’s Wagaya in Midtown Atlanta. If that’s not open, Nagomiya is a close second. Somewhere within the week, I have to hit up Forza Storico. Forza Storico is hands down the best Italian food I’ve had in Atlanta yet!

The weekend moves are always the best moves for me but it definitely depends on what my friend is feeling and what’s going on that night. Friday night I may hit up Deeper ATL or Holiday Bar for some craft cocktails, and then finish the weekend out with Code at Traffik on a Saturday. Some honorable mentions for daytime weekend spots to hang out and eat at are Pretty Little Tacos at Colony Square or Piedmont Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout-out to my mother actually. My mother has played an important role in making sure I grew up to be multifaceted and diverse. The fact that she made sure I was a classically trained singer as a child set the foundation for the multi-genre music I’m able to make today.
