We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Reo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ Reo, what’s your definition for success?
For me, success is determined by the individual. Everyone has their own set of goals and aspirations that they would like to accomplish. And in doing so if they accomplish what they desire then to me they would be considered successful in their own right.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I consider myself an open format Disc Jockey but specialize in Hip Hop, Rap, Dancehall, Reggae, Afrobeat and R&B music. What sets me apart is none of my sets are the same and I consider myself very versatile being that I can play in a hip hop club one day and go do a carribean set in a international club.

Starting off my dj career was definitely not an easy one but I would say I’ve had a lot of success as a newer dj on the scene. Often djs go through the most problems when it comes to nightlife politics so making sure the business side of your djing is conducted right is always an ongoing challenge.

One of the most important lessons I learned since I’ve been djing is managing relationships. Good relationships with club owners, promoters, and other djs can take you a long way in this line of work!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend who came to Atlanta to visit I would definitely start them off with the general tourist attractions like the Georgia Aquarium, Coca Factory, and if they were into fitness maybe Stone Mountain to climb.

In terms of food I would say Breakfast at Barney’s, Atlanta breakfast club and Toast on Lenox would be my favorite breakfast places to eat. As far as dinner I would recommend Two urban licks, Sugar factory, and the Sun Dial If you want a nice view of the city.

Nightlife in Atlanta is endless so depending on what day they wanted to go out would determine the place we would go but there’s too many to name.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Dj Battio and therotationmovement djs. Dj Battio was one of the first djs in Atlanta to embrace me and show me the ins and out of how to really structure your business when dealing with club owners, promoters, and night life in general. Also when I joined the rotation movement djs I was able to network with a lot of djs around atlanta and share knowledge back and forth.

Also I would like to shoutout DjYobz he was the first djs I use to call if I had a lot of questions on certain things as well too!
