We had the good fortune of connecting with Tahiera Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tahiera, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a child I always admired creative people. I always found myself in the presence of performers or I was asked to participate in events that kept me connected. A creative career actually chose me. A casting agent literally took me under her wings and taught me from the ground up. The struggle was as real as it gets, as she did not show me any favors. I love to write and I love watching creative people bring stories to life. It doesn’t matter to me of it’s a play, a musical or a film. Bring a creative individual meeting others like me was my driving force.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love words and how they move people to action. I love to write creatively in scripts and story telling. Was blessed to have someone admire me from afar. She saw me as an extra in a film. I had her business card. I was in the hospital, struggling to adjust to life after being in a coma. Dee Voigt told me; “Call me when you get out of the hospital”. I did call her and she told me that she wanted me to help her cast ethnic talent for a movie that was going to be filmed in Atlanta. She wasn’t taking no for an answer. She took my learning to adjust to life as a gift. A second chance. She made me work hard. On film sets was my school to life. I have so much to thank her for. At the time I thought she was being hard on me. Although she was, the gift she gave me was priceless. Was my life in the industry easy? No, but it was necessary for it to be tough. I had to learn to live in a very harsh world. There is no better place than searching for talent and being on movie sets. I am a survivor. I was a hostage for two years. I use my platform to help others navigate the film industry. Just like Dee, I give talent an opportunity to learn the business in real time. Success lives within you. Over the years I was blessed to meet many people who guided me and supported me along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Alabama has so much to offer. First I would request that they get a hotel in downtown Birmingham, so that they can visit some of the venues that supported The World Games. I would suggest a tour with my friend Cassandra King in one of her limousines on her Eat. Drink. Ride Tours. It’s four incredible hours of fun as you tour the city and eat at select restaurants. Everything is taken care of in one fee. I highly suggest Barber Vintage Motor Sports Museum. It’s always a hit with my guests. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. It’s a beautiful venue and it’s very educational. I love the Birmingham Zoo, which is loaded fantastic pathways to adventures where you get to see many exotic animals. Sloss Furnaces, it’s a place that speaks for itself. It’s exciting and they have great restaurants and many events takes place along it’s golden steel towers. A reminder of years gone by. We’ve got Regions Field and Vulcan Park and Museum. There is Trim Tab Brewing, Good People Brewing and Alabama Jazz Hall Of Fame and so much more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to give a shout to to Dee Voigt (deceased). She something in me and took me under her wings. She forced me to see my abilities and stood by me in the toughest time of my life.

I would like to give a shout out to my husband Victor M. Brown. He has been my greatest supporter and fan number 1. He’s faithful, sincere and loving.

Also I would like to give a shout out to my crew, especially my Director Bruce Nix Jr. I saw in him amazing abilities, just like Dee Voigt saw in me and he has proven that to be so.

Last, but not least the lawyer, that saved my family, J Tom Morgan. Without him, I would not be here to tell my story.
