We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business will help the world by spreading awareness and creating conversations. Through mass media, I have the opportunity to expand exposure to someone else’s businesses or artistry. I want people around the world to see my business as an outlet for public exposure. A place where they’re heard and seen for who they truly are. Covid-19 drastically effected the human race and slowed down a lot of financial resource for everyone. With my business, I’m able to help people grow their core audience through promotions and branding. Not only am I able to help other businesses grow and flourish, I also have the power to address social concerns, pubic affairs, and cultural topics. Most importantly, my business provides a space where we as individuals can unite as one and share common interest though communication.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Of course magazines and print editorials have been around for ages. However, not quite like this one. Slums Magazine will stand out amongst the competitors because we acquire a true passion for the art-form. We truly enjoy networking and using our voices as a gateway for others to tell their stories. We are all natural born leaders, creators and visionaries. We’re determined to stand out by resetting a firm media agenda, providing a safe environment for artist and entrepreneurs and developing unforgettable moments through print media.
This summer my team and I released our very first Slums Magazine publication. Out of our seven year journey, that definitely was my proudest moment. I brought the idea to the team back in January, 2022. I was determined to take the brand to the next level and I knew the best way to do that was to start publishing hard copies for our magazine. We received a great response from our readers and subscribers and also gained interest in many new readers. Im most excited about us diving into our second issue, the fall issue. We have plenty of incredible things coming this fall . New artist interviews, promoting some great black-owned businesses out here in Atlanta and so much more. This issue is all about Fall fashion & style, being loud & proud and enjoying the skin you’re in. Get ready , it’s going to be amazing. The magazine will release on www.Issuu.com for an online purchase of $10.00 on September 22, 2022.
I got to where I am today by believing in Gods promise, trusting my instincts and reaching for the stars . It has been tough, but through faith & with the love from my family, friends & colleagues it has been worthwhile.
Some valuable lessons I’ve learned on the way was to chase your dreams, no matter how unobtainable it may seem. Regardless of doubts and procrastination, we have to fight for the things we love and desire. I’ve learned to speak over my life as if I’ve already won, because I’m already a winner:
What I want people to remember about my business/brand is that we all start from nothing, its inevitable. However, that doesn’t mean we end with nothing. Our motto over at Slums Magazine is “It’s Not About Where You’re From, It’s About Where You’re Going!” Always remember that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Atlanta has a little bit of everything for just about everybody. I’ve only been living here for about two years, but i’m no stranger to being outside. If you’re hungry, you gotta check out Hattie Marie’s Texas Style BBQ and Cajun Kitchen. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “finger licking good.” You can also check out my boy Jerome over a Nehemiah’s Kitchen, a guaranteed fulfilling experience. Unless it’s Tuesday in ATL, then it’s no other place to be then eating pasta with Check Kodak— trust me. When it comes to vibes and drinks, you gotta check out boogaloo Lounge and Bar. They have the dopest karaoke nights, cheapest happy hour with the strongest drinks, in my opinion. If you’re looking for just nice views, your options are endless. Atlanta has great attractions like Piedmont Park, Atlanta Botanical Garden and SkyView Atlanta.
The city is yours, enjoy!
nizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I would like to thank both of my business partners, Jaik Montana and Renay Marie. These two are incredible! I met Jaik back around 2016 through social media. Jaik was actually the one who brought the idea Slums Magazine into full affect. He had a vision to create a platform for underground artist and socialites who were trying to break into the industry. Jaik is a recording artist himself. He’s also a music producer and photographer. I met Renay a few years after while doing a college intern for a social media blog by the name of “Take Over Tv.” We had to learn the ropes together and help each other A LOT on the way. Through it all we became really close. So close that I asked her to join me and Jaik as we embark on this new venture of ours. Of course, she was down & has been my right hand women ever since. Someone once said, “behind every great man stands a great woman.” I believe that be very true. Renay is our sports-media brand strategist and assistant editor. Together, all three of us make up the Slums family. I love them both dearly .
