Meet Destiny Smith | Model & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My interest in modeling was derived from a therapeutic journey at the start of the pandemic in 2020. Modeling is a freeing experience, it promotes visual and emotional introspection. As a freelance model you have the opportunity to set your own boundaries. You have the freedom to decide how you would like to see yourself and how others get to see you. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know myself and other creatives in the Atlanta area. Modeling has allowed me to break into the creative scene as a stylist, a dance instructor, and a photography assistant. I look forward to working with other creatives and helping support their artistic visions, I am grateful for my community’s support during this journey and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I started modeling I wanted to be a commercial model but as I’ve grown in my craft I’ve found that I really love creative direction a little bit more. If I’m doing something creative or collaborating on a project, my preference is for that project to say something. I love when art is intentional and has a purpose; there are so many beautiful things in the world and I believe they should be celebrated- however I also wish for my art to spark conversations and provoke deep thought. I am proud of my professional reputation, I believe most people I’ve worked with will tell you how creative and supportive I am, i’m a fast learner and I’m quick on my feet. It hasn’t been easy studying a new craft with a regular 9-5 and multiple side hustles, but it’s worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s ironic being so busy I don’t have much time to go out. When my friends come into town my go-to brunch spot is Fins and Feathers. It’s hard to spot but a total gem, after that I’d take a little stroll in Piedmont Park or along the Beltline, I love being outside and getting fresh air. The Beltline is also just a fun place to meet people and dogs- it’s the perfect place to make memories and take photos. For dinner I love to go to this little Italian spot on Howell Mill- Forza Storico is my absolute favorite. If I’m being completely honest, when my friends come visit I tend to be a really big kid. I love a good old fashioned sleepover with movies and snacks. There isn’t anything that beats that quality time to catch up. Going out can be a bit overrated when you have friends visiting for just a few days.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a shout out to Javi Jones, @eyeofhvbris on instagram. I reached out to him to take my digitals at the start of the pandemic and I’ve been able to learn a lot from him in my time modeling. He has taught me so much about light theory, posing, and how to take risks appropriately.  Javi is one of my favorite photographers in Atlanta, he makes art that leaves an impression. Art that you’d hang on your wall and have conversations about. I also would love to shout out The Atlanta Network on facebook; it’s a facebook group filled with wonderful creatives in Atlanta; run by Fuquan Ferell (@forfuqsakes) on instagram. I have been able to grow alongside other models and photographers because of that connection. It is a fantastic group for creatives in Atlanta and I’d love the sense of community it promotes.
