We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexi Rabadam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexi, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
This is a tough one, but I think that one of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my career is that persistence plays a huge factor in success. Whether success to you looks like working a 9-5, being an entrepreneur, having a family, not having a family, or anything really, in life, we have so many choices to make that ultimately lead to us saying, “Do we stop or do we keep trying?” In business, the only way you can succeed is to keep trying. You fail and fail and fail and keep failing and you just have to see what works. Running this business has been difficult – I’m not perfect, and as much experience as I have with running businesses in the past, this is my first time running a MUSIC business, so I’m learning a lot as I go. So I’ve had to practice teaching myself how to persevere in times where I’m struggling and in times where I’m disappointed in my results and in times where I do want to quit, and I’ve had to tell myself that I can do it even if I don’t know what I’m doing (haha). We have to keep pushing forward even in tough times for the purpose that we started for, and when things don’t work, you change paths, but you never quit on your mission!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
To be honest, I started Finessed Media on a whim. I’ve always been very entrepreneurial and have run businesses previously, so I didn’t have much fear jumping in, but I really started creating Finessed Media because the music industry was confusing to ME at first. I have experience running a business, I have experience of being a classical singer, but one day, when my close friend, Dominique Mitchell (Mitch Mula) was explaining the music business to me, I had all these questions and was so confused about all of the moving parts, so I thought, “If this is confusing to me who has years of experience, it’s got to be confusing to others.” That led to me creating Finessed Media as a movement to fill the business education and resources gap in the industry!

In the last two years, our business has endured a lot – the pandemic, of course, but also changing technology, changes in staff, changes in clients, and even the size of our community has changed a lot for our business. What I’m most proud of and what we are most proud of as a company is the amount of impact we’ve been able to make in such a short amount of time. Our company has put on more than 200 events for the music industry in 2 years, with over 20,000 attendees from across the globe, and even with our size, we still have very strong relationships with our community. Additionally, our social impact is HUGE. 90% of our panelists have been BIPOC or from marginalized communities, we’ve seen other organizations spring up because of what they see us doing in the industry, we’ve had more than 20 BIPOC/WOC/NB folks complete our internship program and approximately 75% of those folks have gone on to secure music industry professions. We’ve also been featured in Billboard for our quarterly mental health events, and have been able to work with amazing companies such as Sapphire Studios, Win First Records, The Stadium BK, Crypto Money Records, Crypto.com, Limewire, Bitski, and EQ Exchange.

As a media company, we are changing the way that music industry companies grow by proving that it is possible to create a profitable business and do it on great morals – which, we haven’t always seen in the music and entertainment business before. So as much as we are about education, we are also very much about smart, strategic execution, and that’s where our agency comes in. I’m happy to say that we are creating a top notch media company built on supporting people and the culture of music before anything else.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to sincerely thank my friends, family, partner, staff and of course the entire Finessed Media community for supporting my team and myself in building a better music industry for all of us. I’m so grateful to every single one of you every single day! Let’s keep building!
