We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashton Combs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashton, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that risk is an inevitable part of any journey that leads to success. I would even say the risk is the cousin to success and failure. Risk has played a vital role to my success. I took a huge risk starting over and moving from Nebraska to Atlanta. As much as I was unsure about the risk of moving I allowed it to fuel and push me to take that step to the next level. Risk is unequivocally a vital component to accomplishing your dreams. High risk equals high rewards.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I come from a background with heavy southern church and soul music influences. I allow that influence thrive and bring life to my music. Church and soul music is a part of who I am and I don’t shy away from that. I am most proud of the authenticity of my music. I try my best to maintain my roots and still incorporate some todays contemporary style.

I got where I am today by the grace of God and building relationships. Networking is a huge component of the music industry. I understand the importance of cultivating and nourishing relationships.

No, the process has not been easy but I have overcome the challenges by being confident enough to not let the mistakes hold me back and humble enough to learn from them. One of the lessons I’ve learned in this business is to not keep knocking on the doors that aren’t meant to open for you. Read peoples energy. If a person or persons are giving off the energy that they aren’t trying to be involved in your movement, LET THEM GO. Don’t waste time trying to convince people to work with you because there are people out there that will value your talent. Stop knocking on doors that aren’t meant for you. Rock with who rocks with you. One thing I want the world to know about my brand is that I dropped my debut album “The Other Side” available on all platforms!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my father Rev. Dr. Michael W. Combs and my beautiful family. They keep me grounded and going.
