We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittaney Jenkins, BS, CHES and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittaney, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Jenkins Public Health Consulting, LLC was choosing to invest in a coach for business growth and personal development. Hiring a business coach also led to me investing in software that allowed me to manage more clients and spend more time with family. When I learned the difference between expenses and investments, it changed my business dramatically.

What should our readers know about your business?
Jenkins Public Health Consulting, LLC helps public health and wellness organizations develop innovative community outreach strategies to increase awareness and engagement of programs, ultimately improving community health outcomes and exceeding program goals.

What sets JPHC, LLC apart from other public health consulting firms is that we focus on one of the most overlooked yet essential parts of the business, community outreach! We are a forward-thinking business that trains organizations on how to develop a unique outreach and engagement approach that connects communities to public health resources while addressing health inequities and literacy rates. Whether a nonprofit or for-profit organization, if a business plan is in place, but effective outreach is lacking, it can negatively impact the organizational success and, ultimately, the health outcomes of communities.

Our successful clients develop highly engaging community outreach strategies, learn methods to gain partners through collaborations and coalition building, and design outreach and marketing plans that educate and provide opportunities for their target audience!

As a business owner, I am most proud of my decision to provide community outreach as a service to clients even when challenged to change my focus to fit the status quo. While working in the field of public health for more than ten years, I noticed that organizations often had a “one-size fits all” approach when providing health and educational resources to the public. Those experiences ignited my passion for opening a consulting firm that addresses ineffective community outreach and instead develops a person-centered approach by genuinely connecting communities to resources that improve health outcomes and wellbeing. I believe improved outreach improves outcomes; therefore, creating a community outreach plan and tailoring resources to fit the needs of diverse communities will improve health outcomes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit Atlanta for a week, I would first check to see if any fun festivals are happening that week. We would visit the Botanical Gardens, celebrate Taco Tuesday at Bar Mercado inside the Krog Street Market, and purchase tickets to the High Museum of Art. We would also take a stroll around the Historic Fourth Ward Park, have brunch at the Atlanta Breakfast Club, and on the final day, book a relaxing massage!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The American Red Cross truly deserves recognition. This nationally recognized organization offered volunteer opportunities that played a significant role in solidifying my decision to pursue the field of public health. Growing up, I lived in a home where volunteerism and philanthropy were the norms. When I began college, the American Red Cross was recruiting students to volunteer, and I was immediately interested. I volunteered for years as an educator for the Pillow Case Project and the Home Fire Campaign, and it was a blast! It allowed me to see first-hand the positive impact of delivering education and resources in an equitable and health-literate format among diverse communities with unique needs. The experience also taught me about the power of connections, the importance of intentional leadership, and that your role as an educator also includes serving as a life-long credible resource. More than ten years later, I am still a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
