We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa van Reeuwyk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My business became a teenager this year and when I look back and connect the dots of success, I can see that as my ability to be vulnerable and show up as authentically me grew, so did the impact of my business coaching services right alongside of it.

As women and creatives, we need more messaging around trusting our wild souls and the wisdom of our bodies and when I disconnected from societal pressure to show up as “professional” and ran my programs based on what I knew would make the most impact, everything changed.

My brand has seen so much success, because I know that when we feel encouraged and safe to be curious and experiment, magic happens.

I’ve been around the block enough times to know that this “no fear” idea is toxic and impossible. But I do know that when I recognize how leaning into change feels in my body, I can use it as a north start to guide my decision making process. I don’t give fear the keys to drive my car down this highway of entrepreneurship and model that for my clients.

If a decision feels warm, tingles and I’m leaning in, that’s a really good thing. If I’m tight, tense, cold and physically rearing away, I can trust that my instincts are guiding me to pass on this opportunity.

Even though we all have loads of competition and the inner dialogue isn’t always our biggest cheerleader, knowing that no one can offer what I do in the way I do, because no one has my truth, my trauma or my tale, cuts through all that and allows be to get about the business of

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I often say to my coaching clients, “I won’t tell you it’s going to be easy, but it is going to be worth it.”

I love Liz Gilbert’s shit sandwich analogy that no matter what we’re doing, we’re all eating one. We have long hours, stress and sacrifice, but how do we know we’re on the right path? When you notice that someone who is doing what you are, puts their sandwich down and essentially says, “I’m done! I can’t take another bite.” and you look around and say, “Do you mind if I finish your sandwich?”, you know you’ve found your calling.

That is me, asking for seconds with a giant grin on my face. Over the years, I’ve learned that when people feel seen, heard, valued and supported, their nervous system can finally relax and people can tap into their creative juices and start living more courageously and working on purpose. If something felt comfortable, it wouldn’t be anything new; a great deal of mutual trust and respect that is required for a successful coaching relationship and I’m really proud to see my clients show up as a leader in their own life, standing tall in themselves and move their visions forward.

I’ve had to overcome death of loved ones, a pandemic, raising a family while scaling a business and I am so grateful for all those lessons. I believe we win or we learn, we never lose. Everything is a stepping stone, a redirection to our true calling, when we choose to listen is up to us. A mentor once taught me that life gives us the teachers we need, not the ones we would ever ask for, and I have found this to be sage wisdom.

My brand represents the importance of taking your story and your vision and doing the work to get it out into the world so it can elevate the people who need it the most. That you and your vision matters. When we wrap our business in our values, authenticity and expertise it will attract the right people.

Creatives and wellness practitioners invest in my services to run a business that doesn’t run them as they make more money and have way more fun. People seeking clarity, consistency and killer cashflow who are ready to harness the power of their time and hold space for their dreams and desires, to move past blocks around sales and start making an even greater meaningful impact in people’s lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie was visiting I would take the to Granville Island in Vancouver. It’s brimming with great food, artists, cafés and the scenery is among the most beautiful you’ll find, nestled into the harbour with views of both downtown Vancouver and the north shore mountains.

We’d book in to Wildflower Beauty Bar in Port Moody for fabulous facials with Gretchen, a Gua Sha guru who knows how to get your glow on.

We would hop on a quick ferry and visit SaltSpring Island for a couple of nights for some real west coast down time in nature with so much farm to table food, we would be nourished from soul to toe, hitting their Saturday Farmer’s Market is a must.

With endless hiking opportunities, ocean kayaking, float plane excursions and delicious food, we would never run out of remarkable things to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am in life without a village of support. I can trace a pivotal shift in the trajectory of my life back to the launch of Oprah’s O Magazine, and can confidently say that it saved my life. There were so many tools and resources and words of affirmation that lifted me up and gave me the courage to ask for more.
