We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Zagar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It took me a few tries before I started one that was successful, but this one was born out of passion and necessity and that seemed to be what was missing from my previous ventures. This business required a greater leap of faith in what I saw myself as capable of, and for exactly that reason, it was more successful than anything else I had tried, and in a much shorter time frame. The pandemic really pushed me into it as it did with so many others. I found myself on the precipice of a cliff so to speak, I was holding onto a minimal sense of safety and security with a menial part time job, and I knew it was draining me and holding me back from really committing myself to my newer business, so when we went into lockdown and I was unable to go to my part time job, I threw myself into this new business venture of Human Design and never looked back. I know that can make it sound easy, but there were a lot of tears and self doubt leading up to it. I had to really believe in my ability to be an entrepreneur, while being a single parent, and in the beginning of a pandemic. It was survival mode, and yet, I flourished because I was absolutely determined to make it work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work in a system that can be incredibly intellectual and dry. The text book information is quite dense and can be a lot to digest. The majority of my success is due to my ability to take the flat words on a page and turn them into creative educational content that my clients can understand and integrate in visually attractive ways. While my principle work is in 1:1 sessions where I transmit this system to individuals in personal ways, the most enjoyment I get is from creating different types of media to further assist my clients educational process. I create books, movies, graphics, have an educational subscription space, started an online magazine, and launched a podcast. While I’m not great with technical applications, I know when to hire support to take the more challenging elements off my hands so I can focus on creating the content.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
(is this for a specific city? I have never been to Atlanta. But if this is for spending time with me in any city, this is what I would say, or what I would be like if I came)
If you’re going to spend time with me in the city, be prepared to walk around the cultural districts with no plan other than to follow our intuition in hopes of discovering something unique and synchronistic. I like to think that I have wicked natural taste, and I’m always impressed with myself when I toss out the plan and let my senses guide the way. I always end up finding delicious restaurants, stylish shops, and brilliant company. If I’m flying solo, I love to people watch with a glass of sparking rose and a great book.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wish I had something to say here, but in truth, my success is because I believed in myself despite the doubt from others around me. If I had had support earlier, it perhaps wouldn’t have taken me this long to get here on my own, but I am so proud of me for being here. In the words of Snoop Dogg, “I’d like to thank me.”
