We had the good fortune of connecting with Carissa Rolle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business has been my dream since the 6th grade. My company’s name came from my idea when my sixth-grade teacher asked us to create business cards for a business we would start in the future. I love to help people, and I care about everyone! My first company name is Caring for People Worldwide Royally Inc (which matches my initials), and my second is Rissabae’s Classroom. Since I was three years old, I have wanted to be a teacher and never changed my mind. I always knew I wanted to run a tutoring business because there is a great need for great educators to help these students achieve everything that they put their minds to. I went to college and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an ESOL endorsement, and Reading Endorsed as well as my Masters’s degree in Curriculum and Planning and Educational Leadership. These steps were needed, and being in the classroom for eight years to help facilitate a successful tutoring business. In addition to tutoring, I also enjoy performing and watching children show off their talents. I have conducted many concerts for children and have held girls’ retreats for young girls in middle and high school. These concerts help the kids to show off musical and dancing talent. It gives them something to look forward to. The retreats are a great time as well. It provides these young girls with someone they can trust to talk to and receive sound advice, and I knew this part of the business was as important as teaching the academics.
What should our readers know about your business?
Caring for People Worldwide Royally Inc. is a non-profit organization that I created to share our youth’s talents and create a mentorship-like atmosphere with them as well. I have conducted many concerts where the children can go to the studio and record music that they perform on stage in front of many people: some sing or rap, and some sing and dance or rap and dance. I also have mentorship classes where we have a family-style environment and lean on each other for support, an extra ear, or a shoulder when needed. I also have girls’ retreats. During the retreats, these middle and high school girls get together for a weekend at a resort and have fellowship with one another. We have a topic that we focus on, and we have a great time sharing ideas and things that need to be discussed in a safe place. These retreats are a blessing to everyone, including myself. It is a great time and something that all the girls and myself look forward to.
Rissabae’s Classroom is a tutoring/teacher company. I homeschool the kids that the parents are looking for an alternative to traditional schooling. I also tutor kids who require some extra help, are right on track, or want to continue to be ahead of the learning cycle. I create personal plans with each of my students and provide the parents with a partner in their child’s academic life. My clients are all like family, and building these fantastic relationships helps my business flourish. It was not easy starting this business, but it is well worth it at the end of the day. I learned that it takes hard work, long hours, and dedication to keep your business going and flourishing. I wouldn’t trade it for the world! What sets me apart from other similar companies is that I am not just a teacher or tutor, but I explore the students’ talents and give them a chance to learn using their abilities. I bring back the joy into learning. The mission of Rissabae’s Classroom is to create a platform so that every person can discover their true potential by facilitating the development of higher-order thinking skills. Through the joy of learning, students will use this thinking to solve cross-curricular academic and real-world/life problems and imagine their childhood dreams. Can you imagine what it would feel like to have the necessary tools for success, so you do not have to worry about failure! Rissabae’s Classroom is an affordable and highly effective tutoring/teaching/mentoring program open to all learners. We also offer other educational and social-emotional resources to support all ages and walks of life. “Every learner deserves the right to knowledge and wisdom, and it is our responsibility to facilitate the development of these future leaders! ~C Wade-Rolle.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the city, we would go to Iron Age! That restaurant is impressive, and it’s all you can eat! We would also see a basketball game because we love basketball and the arena is nice in Altlanta. The Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola Factory, indoor skydiving, SkyView Ferris Wheel with the horse carriage wide, and Six Flags Over Georgia are some other activities that we would do together.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many people have been a significant support factor in my journey of starting a business and even my continued growth in being a business owner. The first is God! Without Him, I couldn’t be where I am today. Next would be my parents. My mom (Jennifer) and dad (Anthlone) went above and beyond the call of duty to raise all their children. With their hard work and dedication to everything that they did, they taught us how we should go about being entrepreneurs and running a successful business. Since my mom passed from cancer, my grandma has been my mom, and I am just so grateful for her! My husband and my daughter also have been significant support factors, and they motivate me to keep pushing and make my dreams come true. My brothers (Tony and John) have been beside me through this whole process. My first teacher, Mrs. Trotter, is why I even decided to become a teacher. She is truly an angel. I would also like to shout out my friends, family, sister-in-law, students, and parents, who are now a part of my family! I love them all!
