We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Accomando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me personally, music has *always* been the one and only answer.

It’s been present in my life for as long as I can remember… Starting with musical TV shows like Zoobilee Zoo, Disney movies, and Broadway soundtracks, and then translating to me being in choir and band throughout school, learning about classic rock, and LOVING 90’s and 00’s music growing up. I was either going to go to school to be a band director or to go into radio/television announcing, and well, neither of those panned out very quickly.

But luckily, I was scooped up by a wedding/corporate band in my last year of college and began performing full-time with them in 2010. I was with that company, leading a band and singing lead in another, until March 2020.

My own musical journey began in 2015 when one of my corporate band colleagues approached me about working at his studio and creating original music. And the rest is ELSIE BINX history!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There’s one big thing that took me too long to realize… BE AUTHENTIC. Don’t try to check the boxes of, for us, “female-fronted rock band”. F*ck that! Do it how it makes sense to you!

My corporate music career taught me SO MUCH on how to be a front-person, but I also had 3 other front-people on lead with me them. Once I was on my own in my own band, it was very obvious that I was leaning too much on the others in the corporate bands. It took some *serious* soul-searching, and that took a few years. I had to learn that being myself was something I could not compromise anymore, and that, along with the pandemic and me being immunocompromised, was a big reason that I had to exit that industry for my own mental and physical health. And those choices aren’t easy, but they are necessary.

Our brand is built on SO many different influences and sounds! Like I mentioned, I come from trained voices, classic rock and pop, but the other band members are incredibly versatile and eclectic as well! From Van Halen to Kelly Clarkson, from Queen to Rage Against the Machine! That’s what makes our collaborative sounds unique!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s Go, DETROIT!

We’d be going to Seva, which is a fave vegan spot of mine. Another fave vegan spot is Ale Mary’s!

Fave music venues for sure – The Shelter, The Fillmore, The Fox

Something else uniquely Detroit art the exhibits at The DIA – Detroit Institute of Arts, and also the travelling exhibits at The Henry Ford Museum!

We’re probably also going to Blake’s Big Apple Orchard, maybe visit the downtown area in Royal Oak as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely – Kevin Wesley Williams is, to this day, our manager/producer/engineer, and if hadn’t seen potential in me while working with that corporate band, we quite literally wouldn’t be a band today, 7 years later. My now best friends are in this band and I wouldn’t know them at all if it weren’t for him. I am forever grateful for our chance meeting.
