We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Cooke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After the 2008 housing crash, my business partner and I decided that we needed to invest in a recession proof business. Both of us were heavily invested in real estate and we quickly realized that we needed to diversify our investments. After carefully researching recession proof businesses, we finally decided that a laundromat business would be our best option. As we continue to survive and thrive in this current pandemic, it has proven to be one of our best decisions. While other businesses were forced to shut down, we are deemed to be an essential business and thus we were able to keep our doors open while other businesses had to close theirs.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
During our research process, we would go to other laundromat facilities near and far and we would engage with patrons and ask them what is something that you require and or desire from your laundromat facility? The top 3 responses we would receive customers is that they wanted clean facilities, better customer service, and a safe and pleasant atmosphere. We made it our business to provide our customers with all three and more.

Opening our business was not an easy task. We didn’t have any experience in the industry and obtaining financing for a laundromat business was very challenging as well. Most traditional financial institutions, if not all, classify laundromat businesses as a “high risk” business. So, to overcome that issue, we decided to buy our building with cash and then we used to real estate as leverage for financing.

We learned a lot with our business. Considering this was our first customer based business, it was a definite learning curve. We learned a lot about customer behavior, customer needs and wants, building design layout, products and additional services offered.

We want people to know that we are a brand with a growing brand name. We are not your traditional laundry service, we are committed to bringing new ways for customers interact with Laundromat businesses. One example is that we implemented an App System that allows customers to pay for multiple machines at once without having to stand in front of every machine and insert one quarter at a time. This saves the customer a lot time and is extremely convenient. As the App continues to evolve, customer will be able to change the settings of each machine right from the palm of their hand. You’ll also be alerted with push notification when you items are close to finishing it’s cycle, thus allowing you to keep track of your items. The App also allows customers to generate loyalty points. Loyalty points can be used by the customer at anytime, with any machine or they can use their loyalty points to pay for our Wash-N-Fold services.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were entertaining in the city for food and drinks, I have a couple of places that stand out. Gypsy Kitchen, South City Kitchen, The Select, & Parkside are just a few of my favorite places to eat and drink.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to shoutout all of our family, friends, and business associates. Their support from start to finish was/is amazing. While most business owners experience negative feedback about their business ventures, we experienced the complete opposite. As a matter of fact, we were immensely encouraged to pursue our dreams.
