We had the good fortune of connecting with Oluwatosin Akindele and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oluwatosin, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the idea that I can be a vessel of change for someone. Knowing that the space I provide for black men will always be safe and enriched with empathy and patience continues to push me. And last but not least, seeing growth in my clients exhibited through self love and the desire to continuously improve themselves and their relationships is the ultimate inspiration to keep going.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice is TherapyForUsbyUs.com. I serve marginalized communities who have experienced physical or emotional trauma. Either it be complex, chronic or acute trauma. Since my early years working in the foster care system I’ve known that i wanted to be a therapist. My goal has been and continues to be to provide a safe space where marginalized people can unburden themselves, and be vulnerable without shame and fear of judgment. Starting TherapyForUsbyUs has been nothing short of inspirational. I’ve worked with people from all walks of life and the most important lesson I continue to take away is that we all hurt. Some hurt the same, some hurt differently, but no one’s pain should be dismissed. I want the world to know that there are black men in the forefront, who understand the toil trauma has and are dedicated to helping you on your healing journey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a collective shoutout to Millennials. I think collectively, we all looked around and noticed all the trauma in our history and the trauma we continue to endure and said “nah no more”. Gone are the whispers, we openly talk about mental illnesses, we prioritize our mental health and most importantly, we have normalized therapy. Imagine there was a time where therapy was taboo…especially in black and brown households.
