We had the good fortune of connecting with Patritsia Baca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patritsia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have to admit, that I love this question! Taking risks has played a huge role in both my life and my career. I’m all about living on the edge and risking! In my late teenage years I left my parents home, moved to another city and worked on my modeling career. Years later I can admit that this was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, it helped me grow up, taught me how to be strong and independent woman. Also helped me meet and connect with people, living completely different life.
In my early 20s I discovered my passion for traveling. I started exploring Europe and Asia, as well as North and South America later on in my life. I decided that I’m bored of my motherland and wanted a different summer experience, booked a flight to UK and packed a suitcase. This “different” summer turned into 3 years of my life, that taught me some very important and unforgettable lessons.
In 2018 I felt the need of a change again, and I signed up for a student exchange program. Came to US and met someone special. I can gladly admit that I took the risk to go on a date with a stranger, who completely changed my life!
Last but not least about 6 months ago I took a huge risk, by investing all of my savings in a dream of mine. I discovered my love for crafting and opened up my own boutique for handmade personalized gifts. I named it Patsy’s Boutique. Patsy is a nickname my family and friends in Bulgaria used to call me.
So yeah..I do know a thing or two about risk haha.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always loved art. My original idea was to make personalized cards and scrapbook albums, everyone who knows me will confirm that I LOVE taking photos haha. I accidentally ran into some shadowbox frames at the craft store and thought maybe I can try and make a few, just to have bigger variety, but I never thought that this would turn into my primary product. And for the record I completely forgot about the idea of making cards I love and have so much fun creating personalized shadowboxes. Few months after I started my journey, I decided to try different technique. And so I cut out a spiral, twisted it and created a rose, then I cut out a few more and a few more and started creating different shapes of them. Initials for example or hearts, butterflies, teddy bears, and many many more. My favorite flower is rose. Every artist has a signature and I believe this is mine. The rose carries a piece of resemblance for me and the personalized message added to the glass of the frame makes each one of them special and unique.
It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey, but I prefer to focus on the positive. I’ve created and shipped over 90 orders, some of them international, I got recognized multiple times and my product has been shared by two of the biggest craft brands in US. I’m a Star Seller in a platform I use to sell my products 3rd month in a row, the award was given to me for quick response, on-time shipping and 5 star reviews. My very first craft show was definitely a success and I have a lot more scheduled a head. I’m getting ready to release some new products ( something completely different than what I’ve done so far ). I was given the chance to share my story with you! And all that in less than 6 months. What makes me the happiest is my customers feedback and reactions when they see their orders for a first time, this is definitely priceless.
In my opinion the ability to read people and connect with them is what sets me apart from others.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to listen to my body and give myself a break. It actually end up saving me time and tons of energy.
If you want to surprise a loved one, even if you are not quite sure what you want, I’m your person! Trust me on that one and check out Patsys Boutique Instagram page and Etsy shop!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Everytime I have someone visiting, we go out to dinner by the water and enjoy the city view and of course the sunset. I’m a big sunset person. Going out and staying out late isn’t really my thing at this stage of my life, but I love taking walks and hanging out at the park, visiting the Zoo, shopping just like every woman. There are few rooftop bars with great food and cocktails, which are great experience in the summer time.I’m not sure if staying in the house for two years, or having the right person in my life changed me but I’d take quiet night over a wild one anytime haha.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
At this point of my life I believe that success is combination of people, stories, situations, places and believing in yourself. I’m very grateful for everyone who doubted me and had negative thoughts regarding my journey. It definitely pushed my artistic limits and created the best version of me. When it comes to support of course my biggest supporter is my husband, he drops my orders off daily at the post office, he’s also my quality control guy, sometimes he even helps with ideas and always encourage me in a moment of self-doubt. My family back home of course is very positive and excited about me and this new capture of my life.
