We had the good fortune of connecting with Rakeem Vick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rakeem, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
As we are blessed we have a moral obligation to bless others. Through my journey of being a young African American business owner I learned the Hebrew term Tsaddiqim it means when the righteous proser the city rejoices.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Rakeem landed a full athletic scholarship to one of the top HBCU’s in the country North Carolina Central University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Mass communication. During the 2nd game of his senior season Rakeem suffered a career ending injury that left him paralyzed. Rakeem suffered a bruised spinal cord, but was able to make a full recovery and had him rethink what was his purpose in life and sports moving forward.

After graduating Rakeem focused on his coaching career as he worked as a Graduate Assistant with the football team at North Carolina Central University in which he sharpened his skills on how to maximize a players potential both on and off the field. After leaving sports, Rakeem used his communications degree and quickly grasped the corporate world by joining the management training program with Enterprise Rent a Car. Rakeem would go on to have a powerful 6 years working with Enterprise climbing the ladder all the way to marketing account manager. With his tactic sales techniques and his personable customer service, Rakeem understood sales and marketing and was able to see a future in helping young men become them best selves off the field.

In 2020 Rakeem partnered up with childhood friends Jeffrey Revel and Paul Miller to create R3vel and Vick Sports and Entertainment (R3V) a full service sports agency that focuses on representing athletes both on and off the field while creating a brand that will last a lifetime.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My idea of a good time is relaxation, good food and drinks. I would start out at Dames Chicken and Waffles, to show off the success of a HBCU Alumni. After a great brunch I would connect my friend visiting with the kids from the community by showing up to a 7v7 practice or game to show love by speaking to the kids that are looking to gain the most in life. Capital Grill is defiantly on the menu as we would head to North Hills in Raleigh NC, for a good time. After eating I would connect with my cousin radio personalty Brian Dawson as he controls the night life in the city. Good food, good drinks and a nice cigar will do us just fine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to credit my team for not only believing in the vision but putting skin in the game to restore the vision. We all come from different walks of life, but we decided to come together with one common goal and that is to increase black representation in sports. We really created an all star team to get this done. Our team is build on men in women with strong beliefs that they are the absolute best at their position no matter the room they step foot in, this very attitude transforms to the athletes we recruit to represent.
