We had the good fortune of connecting with Robreauna Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robreauna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First I like to brainstorm on ideas for awhile before I execute them. Everything has to make sense and seem profitable for me in the long run, rather than just a “quick buck”. I’m really big on making profitable business moves that set me up for life. Before starting all of my businesses I really like to sit on them to learn about the industry, read about the business, pay attention to the market etc before I dive head first with my creativity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m really big on creativity. I’m extremeley creative, so I sometimes get overwhelmed with all the ideas I have. But I think what sets me apart from other is, My passion for my businesses definitely shows in my work, my marketing + branding, I treat my businesses like their my kids. I put my all into my businesses, and take everything about them serious. My loved ones always tell me they see a whole different side of me when it comes to business. I don’t play at all lol. It’s been a hard journey but very rewarding. I started off as a nursing student working at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, I worked there for about 5 years. It was a great experience, But I wasn’t passionate about nursing. I started doing makeup on the side, I’ve always been really into beauty, makeup hair etc. THAT was my lane of business. I then had an interest for lashes, so I took a class and my lash business took off. I dealt with alot of hate being a lash artist in the Bay area, it was annoying but I got through it. Girls would call state board on me for not being a licensed esthetician to shut my business down. So I enrolled in esthetician school to get my licensed. Then I got expelled 2weeks prior to graduation for recording unprofessional teachers attacking students, and badtalking them. They would discuss student’s private parts, it was foul. I defended a girl who was trans and my classmate, and because I had enough footage to escalate legal matters, they expelled me and withheld my transcripts so I couldn’t get my license. Super frustrating, but I ended up going to another school who fought for my transcripts, and got my license the month after. The school ended up getting shut down a year later and the entire staff got fired. So Hey, God don’t like ugly. Everything aligned in my favor. I’m blessed. I learned everything happens for a reason and it definitely gets HARD right before the level up. I’ve learned that repeatedly the hard way. I always go through a humbling experience before I explode in business lol its weird. But I love the journey, it keeps me grounded and on top of my game. I moved to Atlanta in 2020, and have excelled in my lash business, to where I started two more businesses. My Curl Hair Brand (CurlCandi) during the pandemic and them Sugar Baby Creamery which will open summer 2022.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta’s nightlife. In the Bay Area, I never really had a fun night life or “brunching” experience with friends, so Atlanta definitely changed that for me. My favorite places to eat I would say would be Divan, THE BEST LAMBCHOPS IN THE CITY!, and the best hookah. Its such a cute private vibe. Also, I love cheetah’s. Its a stripclub but a fancy restaurant, I go there alot to work and come up with business plays with my brothers. Its one of my go to spots. I also love Kabobland for the hookah and vibe. Lunch spots i’d say “Mohave” has been one of my favorite. Its in Sandy Springs, mexican food. The best Crab enchiladas! lol. I take all my friends there. I also love the beltline, if youre looking for a good time in atlanta, the beltline has everything! I’d start off at Beetlecat (best seafood ever) and then work my way down the beltline trails and grab good drinks. I also work out on the beltline, I like to run my little miles on there lol. For the best seafood boils, Definitely THE BOILER! The #1 seafood spot in Atlanta to me. My bestfriend Chad Dillon owns it, I love the vibe and the food there too. They also sell the best drinks, super cute too lol. For the nightclub life, You can’t go wrong with Allure (I love strip clubs!) and for a good after hour spot, You definitely have to go to Chic!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom.

My mom passed when I was 1, due to gun violence so I was never given the opportunity to have that mom and daughter experience. It really used to affect me growing up not gonna lie, but I turned that pain into multiple streams of income. My mom’s name was Candace but everyone called her “Candy”. She was a known hairstylist in Berkeley, CA in the Bay Area where we’re from. She had so many goals and dreams of having her own hair company and salon, and unfortunately never got to do if. So I started a curly hair brand in her honor named CurlCandi in 2020 which exploded after the launch man, it was crazy. We made 6 figures in 9months, so it was a beautiful thing to witness. She would’ve loved this. I did that for her. I believe the Candy aesthetic has sold the business, I’m huge on marketing and branding and that definitely drew alot of attention to women. So I wanted to continously push this “candy” aesthetic and that is how I came up with Sugar Baby Creamery. SBC is new upcoming rolled Ice Creamery opening up this summer in Buckhead! I’m soooooo excited for that.
