Meet Savannah Rose | Editorial Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Failure is a bruise not a tattoo.” -Jon Sinclair.
I love this quote because any artist is, at some point, going to make something that kind of sucks. As a human beings we are all going to fail at something eventually. But this quote just helps me remember that even though you might mess up, that mistake won’t stay with you forever. As a stubborn person who has a hard time forgiving myself, it helps me move past things and keep trying.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing that I love about being an artist is that you can always evolve your style and focus. I fell in love with portrait photography because of its ability to capture emotion and tell a story. I think if an image can make you feel something, anything, then it’s a successful image. Over time I’ve experimented a lot with my style of photography but trying to capture images like that has always been something that stayed. Now I like to say my style is a mix of conceptual portraiture and editorial fashion photography and it’s something I’m really excited to keep exploring. My images can always be identified by my love for directional lighting, muted color tones, and creative concepts.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have the coolest friends so normally when they come to visit it’s not unusual for me to plan a photoshoot with them while they’re in town. I’d also take them hiking, either to Raven Cliff Falls or Arabia Mountain, and pack a picnic to spend the day. In the evening we head back to the city for dinner at one of my favorite low key Italian spots, Osteria 832. And of course, end the weekend with drinks at Ponce City market and a walk down the beltline.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One person who I definitely feel deserves recognition is one of my teachers from The Creative Circus, Kelly Lewis. Not only has her own photography been a source of inspiration for me, but her as a person as well. She was a huge source of encouragement to me throughout my time in school, and really helped me get through a tough program without losing my artistic vision. I think it’s really important to find teachers who believe in you and are always rooting for you and a lot of my teachers, especially Kelly, really did that for me.
