We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tamara Dias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Dias, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Women of color comprise just four percent of c-suite positions. Furthermore, women of color in mid-level management positions are often not given support to move into higher positions in their companies and organizations. After my own successful career in the c-suite as an executive, I quickly realized that women of color lacked the support to thrive in their roles. Even when I observed women being promoted and entering into. leadership positions, organizations did not provide them with resources to sustain themselves in these roles. I founded my consulting and coaching firm to specifically fill these gaps and empower women as they define their own leadership styles.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have always wanted to empower and encourage others. My background is in education, and I think I’ve always valued the importance of relationships. My business builds on this belief, because I have great relationships with each of my clients. Because I’m a former classroom teacher, I also bring an engaging and interactive approach to all of my work. Many of my clients have shared that my coaching services meet them where they are, just as a teacher would do for their students.

TWD Coaching and Consulting offers one-on-one coaching in our signature three month program. We also offer organizational workshop facilitation and retreat activities. What separates TWD Coaching and Consulting apart from others is our strengths-based approach. We tailor all of our coaching and consulting work from individual and organizational strengths to encourage our clients to avoid deficit-based thinking.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love our local wineries! The Monticello Wine Trail is home to some of the most beautiful spaces and best wine. Even if you aren’t a wine lover, you’ll quickly fall in love with the mountain views. Then, we’d visit one of my favorite local restaurants – Pearl Island – for their signature sous poulet chicken with rice, kale salad, and pigeon peas. We’d wrap up the day on the downtown mall checking out one of the local art galleries that often highlight Black artists in the community.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a shoutout to my husband, Jermaine. He’s always cheering me on and reminding me to go after my dreams. I also have an amazing sister-circle of friends who encourage my work. I don’t take any of their support lightly!
