We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole S. Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The habits that have helped me to succeed are, first and foremost, my commitment to affirming my belief in myself. Fear and doubt kill more dreams than actual failure. I make a conscious effort to tell myself that “I can do this!” regularly. Secondly, I make it a habit to focus on what I know, and to build upon that, rather than thinking about things as monumental tasks. Lastly, but by no means any less significantly, I make time for the things that I love . . .regularly. These things include rest and relaxation, travel, and quality time with friends. I absolutely LOVE what I do, but I am not a natural workaholic. I am blessed to have a career that I enjoy, and one that allows me to make a nice living, but I recognize that there is more to life than work. I also believe that the better I take care of myself, the more that I can show up for my clients ready to give 100 percent.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I describe my law firm as a “boutique law practice” [that offers] “professional, larger firm quality representation.” What I mean by this is that I want my clients to feel like we have a relationship with a measure of (professional) intimacy. Clients have to trust their attorney with their secrets. I pride myself in being a naturally empathetic person, and I listen attentively to my clients’ personal stories. I feel that this helps me to be a better advocate. With that being said, I make sure that I am always prepared and I go above and beyond to help my clients get the results that they seek.

I would have to say that my path to success has been slow and steady, but rewarding nonetheless. I have designed my practice to operate in a way where I work low to moderate hours while maximizing productivity. This leaves me with the free time to explore my outside interests, particularly travel. I usually try to take at least two to three international trips per year, though I admittedly have only taken one each year in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

As for my challenges in running a business (namely, generating revenue), again, I focus on building upon what I know, then on exceeding client expectations. This has led to many clients leaving glowing reviews as well as making referrals. I travel to many different courthouses throughout Metro Atlanta (and outside the Metro area) to represent clients. There are days when I appear in multiple courthouses (and they are spread out) in the same day. I’m used to it though. I’m definitely a go-getter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m often charmed by the simple things, food being high on the list, lol. I recently “discovered” Garden Parc in the Cascade area. They have an absolutely delightful brunch on Sundays with an hour of unlimited mimosas and “all you can eat” brunch fare. I’ve been twice and the food has been absolutely delicious both times. They also have a live band on Sundays. With that being said, we’d have to hit Stone Mountain park the next day to climb the walking trail, lol. On a clear day, the view of the city is spectacular. I’m really into being pampered, and my friends are the same way, so we’d have to find some time to visit Jeju Spa in Duluth. Their body scrubs are fantastic! Depending on when they visit, the High Museum might have a great exhibit, but it’s great to visit on any day. I’d have to take them by The King Center of course, and to The World of Coke. I also really like the Little Five Points area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well, I definitely have to give a shoutout to my mother. She invested in my education and encouraged me to aim high in life. Sadly, she passed away in 2020, but I know that she was very proud of me and my life path. I continue to be motivated to honor her legacy.

Secondly, my aunt has always supported and nurtured me throughout my life. She’s my second mother.

I am also very fortunate to have some great “Sisters in Law.” We are able to call on each other to discuss every aspect of running a law firm, and we cheer each other on.

Lastly, I’d like to give a shoutout to my sons for inspiring me to keep going, but I have to mention my younger son Jalin. He’s my “informal business advisor”, lol. He’s very astute and I keep asking him to go to law school so that we can become business partners, lol.
