We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaquin Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaquin, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Being successful means making the decision to be consistent and not give up. Sometimes entrepreneurs have the luxury of having a 9-5 job so if their business doesn’t work out, they quit and move on to the next thing. I have 3 kids and I was unemployed so making the decision to not give up was my only option.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am proud that I was able to publish a few cookbooks and create a line of custom seasoning blends. Because of hard work, word of mouth advertising, and stellar customer service, I am where I am today business wise. It was been a difficult road and I’ve overcome challenges simply due to my faith. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that networking is the BEST way to grow your business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
McDonough which is my hometown has an abundance of fun things to do and places to eat. I’d recommend Axe Country which is a fun adventure of throwing axes. I’d recommend Starshines Cafe and Patisserie, Two Eggs Breakfast & Lunch, Fusion Restaurant & Bar..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Amanda Bae owner of The Painted Nest Group was my personal cheerleader and taste tester during my start up process.
