We had the good fortune of connecting with Yinette Fernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yinette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We had been using our homemade body butter to address our dry skin issues for a few years, and thought to ourselves, “Why not share this wonderful product with others? Other people can stand to benefit from using our product as much as we have” – the rest is history.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
7ABLOOM specializes in self-care gift packages and organic skincare. Initially, we started 7ABLOOM solely selling body butters we had been using ourselves for years but quickly realized the opportunity to expand into other products and experiences. Since then, we have introduced handmade soaps, essential oil rollers, bath salts, and gift sets for all occasions.

James is a Senior Software Engineer and manages all the web development aspects of the business; I have a background in Project Management & Cybersecurity and manage all the Operations and Branding aspects of the business. Leveraging our skills helped us launch 7ABLOOM in a matter of a few months during the beginning months of the COVID pandemic and is what keeps us going strong.

Starting a business, especially while still working a full-time job and supporting small children, is mentally exhausting and stressful. There is a lot of uncertainty, and you will have months where things may be slow. Since we now have two years in business, here are some of the lessons we have learned along the way and hope this helps entrepreneurs:

– The most important person who needs to believe in your products is You.

– Don’t underestimate administrative/operational tasks. Get yourself a Virtual Assistant.

– Having a clear VISION for the brand will help make prioritization and execution of ideas easier.

– Schedule things in advance, and create predictability where you can.

– The customer experience is your #1 priority.

– Discuss your ideas and challenges with others – it’s okay to be vulnerable and take in other people’s ideas.

– Have clear short and long-term KPIs to measure success and quickly shift strategies if needed.

– Make time for your kids and family no matter what.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Monday-Go to “LOOK Dining Cinema” in Dobbs Ferry for a movie-dinner experience. Tuesday-Go to ‘Little Island’ Park and take some great pictures of the view.
Wednesday-Go to the Bronx Zoo.
Thursday- Go to ‘Muse Paint Bar’ in White Plains.
Friday- Go to a Comedy Club and after that go get some Korean Barbecue.
Saturday-Go Bowling downtown NYC.
Sunday- Go get a 45 minute back massage.
