We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Santana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bryan, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Some habits I feel helped me succeed were consistency, and I was consistently looking for more creative styles of either techniques or editing styles.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m absolutely in love with eyes with my photography, I also love the one on one sessions which is why I tend to try and stick to styles where me and my clients can learn things, try different and creative looks, and be personable and be more than just a random behind the camera, I want to be your friend in a way that you can be comfortable with and really truly enjoy having your pictures taken. Absolutely not the easiest journey but still traveling to get my name and brand out there. Definitely has been a word of mouth strategy for me and have been blessed to work with some amazing companies and people from past people I’ve met and shot with.
One lesson I’ve learned is never give up even if you have to take smaller steps and shorter steps, never stop doing something you enjoy doing even when you slow down and take some time to relax or learn.
One day I hope that when my names out there and it’s become full time, I just hope the only thing that’s changed is the stories, experiences, and achievements, not who I am and the story that’s building as I continue to move forward with my career in photography.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are some amazing spots that have definitely grown for photo ops. Parks and the beach are always good either Folly or IOP but also James island and Summerville have amazing spots and parks. Food is good just about anywhere, Downtown Summerville and Shem Creek are two places you can’t go wrong.
For your nightlife you gotta hit up DECO Charleston for the night club or INK Charleston for cocktails.
Downtown Charleston will definitely host an amazing night out if it’s bar hoping or classy restaurants and drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A couple photographers that run a photographs group in my area which is called Models and Photographers Connection Charleston Area, run by Leighton DaCosta and Geno Porter, but also hands down the main content provider and one who helped me from the ground up on any project and idea my amazing friend and model Allysa Kaye. Leighton specifically has been a mentor on my journey with any business and inspiring tasks and inquiries side of things and another photographer who’s been amazing on the boudoir side of things is Chuck Brazier with amazing tips for shooting, directing, and even editing.
