We had the good fortune of connecting with Jude Kamal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jude, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I learned at a very young age to calculate risks and then take them. Risk taking is a huge factor in my daily life, I took a risk when quit my job and decided to start a business, I take risks when trying to scale the company, I take risks when pitching and it is almost an unavoidable role that you have to take on.

Risks are great, the wins are usually extremely rewarding and the losses are mostly big too. Calculated risks are probably safest since you can take the hit if things go wrong. We all have to choose which battles we want to fight.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sansa Interiors is a boutique interior design studio in Toronto, specializing in residential and commercial spaces. We are a small yet highly effective team, we are extremely creative, passionate about the world of interior design and we thrive off of solving complex functional problems in an interior space. We work materials in magical ways and we gather inspiration from modern architecture. Our interpretation is focused on natural materials and interior functionality that ties into nature.

I am so proud of the work we have produced and delivered to our clients. It excites me when people tell us that we have improved their life, or that the design we did for their business has helped their business thrive. I love design and I love working with our team to come up with functional and beautiful solutions.

I started this company during COVID, it was a huge challenge. I doubted myself many times along the way wondering if I can make it happen. I had many sleepless nights, and shed many tears (lol). It makes me laugh when I look back and think of all the things I cried or almost cried over.

It is a huge learning process, I am learning every single day. I have learned to hire people, to lead a team, to build and run a company, to negotiate, to say no, to be fearless, to be gentle with myself and to accept defeat.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love if my best friend comes to visit me. I would definitely tour her around, filling the trip with delicious foods, amazing places and showing her a great time. Since I am in Toronto and it is freezing here during the winter. I would first recommend that my friend visits in the summer.

So let’s assume it is summer, and I am at the airport to pick up my girl:
1. The moment she is in my car, I will take her for a drive to show her the area, some landmarks and my neighbourhood.
2. We will then grab a quick bite to eat at my all time favorite taco place; Campechano.
3. Since we are in Toronto and the night is young, we walk around Toronto, people watching, grabbing ice cream or something to drink then go dancing at Supermarket in Kensington market – my favourite area in Toronto.
4. We ease into the day by grabbing bagels and pastries from Sanremo Bakery and hit the road to check out Niagara on the Lake and Niagara falls where we will walk, play games, take a tour and spend the night overlooking the falls.
5. After we arrive back to my home, we rest and then go hiking to some beautiful hamilton waterfall trails, we go into the town and get a healthy meal at Earth to Table or Bean Bar.
6. We take a day to relax, talk, explore some cafes, take photos, and at night we have a girls night with facemasks, movies and popcorn.
7. We head for 2 days to Montreal so my friend can experience another part of Canada that is really fun in the summer. We explore, walk, visit galleries and the cathedrals, shop, eat lots of delicious food, dance, sing and celebrate our friendship.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many people attributed to our success, here it goes!

1. Daniela from Findable Digital Marketing. Her and I met through a business incubator and shortly afterwards started working together. She helped market our business, did all the SEO work for us and really helped me put out the right online presence for the company. Daniela and I are great friends, we help one another through business hurdles, any stuck moments and support one another.

2. Jasmine from Jasmine Williams Media, whom I also met at the same business incubator. Her, myself and Daniela all have accountability calls, discussions, talking about our goals and truly supporting one another. Jasmine is a very talented content writer and content marketer.

3. Tatiana who is my business coach, and the person who keeps me in line. She has helped me to scale the company tremendously and has guided me through some really tough situations. I am so grateful for these powerful amazing women that entered my life and have turned into great friends.

4. My family who always believed in me and never doubted me.
