We had the good fortune of connecting with Quanishia Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quanishia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Honestly, When I used to think about the word risk it was all from a negative aspect and a lot of what ifs. What if I do this, and then this happen? I always thought talking risks were RISKY. But then i realized that change and growth is risky. You’re risking not having that stability, the comfortability, and risk even losing people but thats ok. Would you rather stay stagnant and unhappy where you are or take that risk and potentially end up stepping into something that change your life? Taking risk has gotten me where i am today and built me into the woman that i am becoming!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a social worker by day and a baker by night. I am most proud of my growth compared to when i first started my journey as a Social Worker as well as the baking. It has not been an easy journey. I’ve overcome those challenges by taking those risk that i was afraid to take, and standing still and being patient. I’ve learned to stand still and not rush things because things will happen exactly when they’re supposed to happen. I want people to know that my brand Hi Sa’Weetness is up and coming, So if you need cakes cupcakes and any other sweet treats I’m your girl!

My love for baking started as a kid. My great grandmother use to bake things from scratch all the time and i would be right in the kitchen watching and soaking it all in. When something didn’t turn out right she would throw it away and tell me to do it over again. Then i got to high school and took the home economics class and there my passion grew even more. I joined FCCLA and we would travel to Athens Georgia for the Georgia FCCLA Leadership Conference. There i had the opportunity to compete in the baking competition against students all over the state of Georgia. One particular year we went to Athens, I left my key ingredients back at the hotel and got to the competition nervous not knowing what to do, but i made do with what i had. That year i missed it by two points. I knew then i was a pretty good baker. Last year i decided to go full force and start up my business instead of letting my talent go to waste.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my best friend to Breakfast at Barney’s for brunch, we would walk the beltline, visit the battery and grab drinks from fat tuesday for some good drinks, the top of ponce city market for some good vibes and drinks, we gotta stop at krogstreet market or the municipal market for some good food, a walk through piedmont park is always relaxing. To see some interesting people and things most definitely take a stroll through little five points.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family, mentor, and friends for always standing behind me and supporting me.
