We had the good fortune of connecting with Goodlookinlee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Goodlookinlee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process was really me knowing I didn’t want to work for anyone. I didn’t feel accepted or seen by any employer really so I knew I had to find or create space for myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is so simple and so complex at the same time, I’m me and they’re not. That’s it. I can relate and be inspired by a plethora of people, places, and things but I’m not sure anyone can make me feel fully represented or seen better than I can and sometimes I suck at representing myself but in the creative realm I fully represent me. Getting where I am today professionally was the total opposite of easy but I’ve found different ways to overcome many obstacles. From picking up new hobbies and skills to retail therapy or finding a therapist I’ve tried lots of things to help myself get over the obstacles because they don’t stop coming no matter what. Throughout this whole process I’ve learned a lot about myself and the things I thought I wanted as well as the things I still want. My awareness has improved a lot on this journey I notice that often. There’s a lot of things I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story but really I just have to do the work and soon you’ll see and understand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok so honestly I’m trash at this because I barely go out but we’re definitely going to JP’s I’m City Island for food and we probably already have liquor with us already so the drinks would be taken care of. We’re hanging out at Barcade or the crib because I’m also trash at picking hang out spots because I hang out in my house and we might do that too really. If there’s a fire exhibit in town or a lit lounge we’d definitely be visiting those places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to dedicate my shout out to the people who listen to my podcast faithfully. I literally found a space and started podcasting not thinking about how the people would receive the show and the response has been so crazy. The response has kept me going many days so thank you to them.
