We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Beley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalia, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Well that’s a tough question but I think that there is a misconception that owning your store is easy; you just buy some stuff, open the doors and watch the money roll in. I don’t think anything could be further from the truth. Owning your own small business is so much hard work, perseverance and sometimes tears. It can take years to really develop your customer base and really establish yourself in the community as a business owner.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well I curate and run a fair trade and artisan marketplace so we feature the handmade work of artisan makers from all over the world and our little corner of Georgia. I feel blessed that my job not only provides income for my family but also that it’s a small part of helping people all over the world provide support and resources for their own families in a safe and dignified way. I think we’re in a time where we are all looking to play a part in creating good in our world and what easier way is there then making ethical choices when we shop. In addition I think people are looking to support local makers and other entrepreneurs so I love being able to connect them to other business owners in our community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Roswell is a fun place to visit for sure and we get so many people from all over the country that stop into our store. People are always asking me for recommendations of places to go and one of my favorite places to send them is over the mill area where they can enjoy a stroll through a beautiful covered bridge, take in the peace and quiet of the waterfall and check out one of the trails that meanders by the Chattahootchee river. You’ll definitely want to snag some pictures here! One of my personal favorite restaurants is 1920 Tavern, the food is incredible and fresh but the service is what I think draws people back. Since everything is made fresh they are always open to making sure the dish is perfect for any dietary restrictions. Then you can take your drink to go (one of our favorite things coming from the northeast where this didn’t exist) and stroll along Canton Street in our historic district.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would never have launched my business if it wasn’t for my husband and his support. Starting a business is so much work and having someone you can lean on for emotional support is invaluable. In addition, one of the other things that I have loved is that my two boys have gotten to see my husband cheering me on and supporting me throughout this endeavor. I hope that one day they’ll be able to do the same thing for their wives and kids.
