We had the good fortune of connecting with Juice Cosmetics and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Growing up poor, my parents did everything they could to make sure we had a good life. We were always taught to work for what we wanted and never let anyone tell you that you cannot do it. I wanted to teach my kids responsibility, entrepreneurship and teach them that you can have fun while you work. I came up with the idea of making handmade cosmetics as the Juice Girls love to make things and they love makeup! I thought it was the perfect idea to come out with their own brand and make the products with ingredients that both adults and kids can use. We have now expanded to more than just lip care! We now make body and skin care products and the Juice Girls could not be happier to make more products and make their ideas come to life!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What sets us apart from other businesses is we are young entrepreneurs making products that are made with safe and natural ingredients so adults and kids can use them. Now moms never have to worry about their little girls using their makeup because they will have their very own and if they happen to use theirs, they can have a piece of mind knowing that the ingredients in the product are kid friendly. We have been operating since October 2020 and it has not been easy. We have had to learn everything there is to know about a business, running the business, the ins and outs of a small business, etc. Being a business owner is fun and rewarding but it also has its ups and downs, especially when you aren’t where you want to be with sales. We are excited to see where our business goes and how far it will take us. We have shipped to over 40 states and have also shipped to Canada, Italy and Puerto Rico. We want the world to know who we are how great our products are. We want our customers to have a peace of mind knowing that everything we make is made with lots of love with them in mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

We live in Fernandina Beach so the first place we would take our friends are to the beach of course. We would take them to ride scooters around the island and then we would take them to play put put golf. We would take them to eat at one of the local restaurants because we love to support our local small business owners.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

We would love to shoutout our mentor that has helped us every step of the way, encouraged us and gave us a chance to show everyone who we are and what we do. Leah Ward-Lee is the Founder of $1,000 Start-Ups Consortium in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Her non profit organization helps local small businesses with the resources they need to start their own business. She helps promote small businesses and has small business fairs several times a year for the small businesses in the community that want to participate and promote their business to locals and have the chance to chat with other small business owners. She has been mentoring us since we first started in 2020 and we appreciate everything she has done for us and the community.
