We had the good fortune of connecting with Tremi Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tremi, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Indianapolis, Indiana. I was brought up in a loving home with both parents present and an older brother. Many things occurred during my childhood that caused me to “just be quiet” rather than causing disruption. As I grew older and matured into the woman I am today, things changed. I realized I had two loving parents that would have accepted anything other than their daughter being lesbian.
At 19, I “came out the closet” as they say. Before then, it was definitely something no one my age would bring up much. Once I expressed who I was I felt light, but the pressure of my family and society to be in a box felt so heavy. As I became comfortable with who I was, the stares, whispers and disrespect began.
One thing I remember the most was my mom saying “Why do you have to dress like that and allow everyone to know what you are. If your dad beat me today, I’m not going to go out in public and let people know what’s going on. So tell me why do you have to go out looking like a little boy because you like girls? You don’t have to go out on the weekend so everyone will see and call me. Go out on a Tuesday, when people are at work.”
From that moment forward I left the house and the city of Indianapolis. If I couldn’t be who I was, I was removing myself from the backlash. Doing that caused me to be disowned and instead of feeling superior, I felt sad and alone. I wanted my mommy.
I went through a lot of dark times but I always stuck to the plan of making others realize they can always be who THEY ARE regardless of what anybody thinks of them. I still cherish the motto, “my clothes and hair don’t make me”
I created the Brief Line within Two Beauties No Beast LLC to provide comfort while bringing awareness. My brand allows masculine women the freedom to be who they are and shop for undergarments without the stares provided when walking in the men’s section of a clothing store.
What should our readers know about your business?
Two Beauties NB is an LBGTQ+, Women, Minority owned business. Two Beauties NB provides comfort while bringing awareness. Our designer brief line allows anyone feeling uncomfortable to feel completely free while shopping for underwear.
This was no easy process. I started with the vision of TBNB. I created my logo, that has now been revamped thanks to (Terraca Bobo, Owner of WeightDRIP). I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2017. I’ve been in IT for years but was yearning to find my purpose and begin the fulfillment. I created TBNB in hopes to get my brand out, gain exposure and build momentum as the goal is to open a Lounge under my company. Two Beauties No Beast, one of the hottest all women lounges in ATL, can’t you see it? (haha) Being in a supply and demand field, I realize t-shirts and masks (due to Covid) were at an all time high but every other clothing company realized the same. At that point, I went back to early adulthood and remembered what I wanted the most… to feel comfortable.
I took some time to fast and clear my spirits and decided to launch Two Beauties NB Brief line. The love, support and acknowledgment has been nothing short of amazing because it is something that has been in demand for years and never been supplied. Well, now they are here for you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a foodie and love music. So I must say the week would be filled with dope spots like Papi’s Cuban Grill on Ponce, Two Urban Licks, or a nice aged steak from Kevin Rathbun along with a music festival or two. We can’t forget a trip to Strokers or Pin Ups for some chicken wings and D’usse with a splash of Coke. Finishing it off with a walk to the waterfall to meditate and get aligned with what’s to come.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my cousin Robyn Jones and my bestfriends Truu (CEO of F.A.M Productions), Latisha and Jatandra (Owner of SweetBabyCakes). These women support, encourage and give me a safe space to be me. They have been behind me 100% with my brand and vision. Everyone needs to have those they can count on to love them and check them. These are relationships that will never cease.
I would also like to shoutout all of my supporters rather known or strangers. I appreciate them. I receive so many messages saying “I appreciate you so much for doing this for us”, “we needed this”, “You made me feel comfortable in my own skin.” It’s this feedback, that keeps me going.
I would like to shoutout my family. At 35, I now know that I had to go through everything I did, to become who I am. Their are truly a token in my life now and things are beginning to change.
Lastly, the most important, God. I need Allah in everyday of my life and he has always been the center of my life.
