Meet Tiffani Johnson | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffani Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffani, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business shocked me in a lot of ways, but it’s safe to say that starting my business was one of the best accomplishments I’ve had so far in my life. This didn’t form overnight.
I was 16 when I fell in love with photography, I knew very little about entrepreneurship, and It wasn’t until I turned 23 when I began to have an understanding of running a business. Capturing moments, making memories, and having the ability to look back on past successes and failures is when I began to realize that photography is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My love for photography started to grow and with it, the process of starting a business became a reality. Unfortunately, at this point in my life, I did not have the necessary financial resources and education to start my own business, so the idea of owning my own business became dormant. Fast forward to two years ago, in August of 2019, I told myself that I will not let another year pass by without starting my photography business, even if I had to dive headfirst into it with no safety net. Fortunately this time around, I had saved some financial resources and began to educate myself on the principles of business to start my own dream of a photography career.
My purpose as an entrepreneur is to make an impact on my community, and around the world. I want to build a rapport with individuals and make a long lasting impression on their lives and photograph moments that mean the most to them. I want them to look back on their memories and remember the experience they had with TMJ Photography. Owning a business is an experience that I want to keep having, over and over. Everyday there are new lessons to learn and great adventures to take. I want to continue making my clients happy, as well as building my business and building my legacy. I am now on my second year of being an entrepreneur and I will continue to strive to be better than the person I was yesterday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of my ability to learn, adapt and create. When a vision comes to mind, I am eager to bring that idea to light. Now, this wasn’t easy. I wasn’t always as creative as I am now. It took me a while to establish some creative skills, but the more I am out in the field working, the better I become as a photographer. My work is Bold, Unconventional and Editorial. When looking at my art, I want you to remember it for those three words.
I love putting my clients in a happy state of mind while photographing them. The feelings behind my images and the story it tells is what makes me most proud.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends come into town, the first stop is always to see Atlanta’s Skyline, and what better place to see every bit of Atlanta than the roof top of Ponce City Market. Not only does the roof top provide beautiful scenic views and the perfect ambience , it offers fantastic restaurants, bars and entertainment. After a few hours of entertainment on the rooftop, such as arcade games and Ice Skating, the next stop would be Insomnia Cookies and Jeni’s Ice Cream. These two places are located next to each other and are a few blocks down from Ponce City Market. After grabbing your soft, warm cookies and delicious ice cream, you can take a stroll around the neighborhood where there are plenty of shops or you can grab a seat on a bench, have a candid conversation and people watch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two individuals who have mentored me throughout my journey. Andrew Millar with Vision Studios, and Korey Davis with Korey Davis Photography. They both encouraged me to always do better than the day before, that knowledge is key and to not be afraid of failure. When I put those three tips together, I found myself on a path to success and excelled in entrepreneurship. I also wouldn’t be the person I am today without my family. They have supported me and encouraged me to always keep pushing. This support has allowed me to exude confidence when working.
