We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “not all those who wander are lost.” It is very indicative of what a lot of people in my generation are going through. Society puts so many restrictions, expectations, and traditions on us, and this is why we think we are lost. In reality, we are really just exploring. Exploration is the foundation of knowledge. As a historian, being able to gain knowledge from different perspectives by exploring thought has had a heavy influence on my way of life.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Surge Solution is an entertainment consulting and marketing firm that also works in both food and education. I started this business as an extension of my DJ services. I began DJing in 2008, and the skills expanded from there in different directions. Surge Solution is different from other entertainment firms because we are well-rounded in all perspectives. This allows for the talent to be multifaceted and give attention to all of the avenues that can make them successful. I am very excited for the growth of my partnership with The Hype Magazine. In 2021, I connected with @HypeJustJay, CEO of The Hype Magazine Network. She has helped me fine tune my business structure by tailoring it more to the needs of my clients. In reference to challenges, my biggest challenge was mental: self-love and self-motivation. In an era of instant gratification, you always have to remember that it is a marathon and not a race. Staying true to my path and my timeline is always a challenge because as you look around, you only see highlights. This is not an accurate representation of the hard work and dedication that a person has to put in to be great.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming into town for a week, there are quite a few spots where I would take them to eat (Waffle House ain’t the only thing in Atlanta). Because I am an avid supporter of local businesses, we would definitely have to hit up Willy’s Jerkbox in Decatur first. Willy’s is a great Caribbean spot that started out as a jerk chicken stand behind the liquor store on Wesley Chapel. Within the last couple of years, they have grown to become a brick and mortar restaurant. The next place we visit would have to be La Salsa Mexican Restaurant in Carrollton for margaritas and tacos. My wife and I attended undergrad at the University of West Georgia, and we were there every Tuesday and Thursday for $2 margs and tacos. Heading to the Southside, we have to stop by Wings on Wheat for a dirty box, and Annie Lara’s for a soul food plate. Coming back up to the Northside, we gotta stop by Northlake Mall to get some Chinese food from one of the two last remaining restaurants in the mall. The food is always fresh and the customer service is definitely up to par. We would finish up our food tour by heading to Bubble Cream Ga, which is a family-owned ice cream shop in Tucker. They hand make their ice cream and waffle cones every day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am dedicating this section to my wife, Sydney (the future Dr. Mrs. Flo!). Thank you for being my backbone. I love you. We on the way!`
