We had the good fortune of connecting with Charann Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charann, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work | Life balance is probably one of the most important conversations I think entrepreneurs and creatives need to have.
I have struggled back and forward finding the balance between running 2 businesses, taking on career development courses, spending time with my Husband, Family, Friends, Ministry and self-care ( Me Time). It is not easy and you can’t just expect all the chips to fall into place either. You have to be intentional about time management. I had to learn to say no or not at this time, to take on fewer clients for my mental health and know how much I can handle. There are so many variables that pull at our time especially if you are running a company where you wear a plethora of hats!
Today, I don’t always get the balance right, but I have grown enough as a creative entrepreneur to commit myself to plan as far ahead as possible, to not overload myself with projects or clients and to set a value/ priority system up so that my time is productive.
Aside, from that, I also strive to set work time and downtime. Again, I don’t always get it right! I try my best not to carry any work over into the weekend, but if I do I try to check in with my support system and ensure that it is not a regular occurrence to keep my work and life balanced.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an all-around Creative!
I create art, music and have creative businesses that continue to fuel my passion for art and design. I consider myself a Serial – Entrepreneur, Creative and Visionary. I get an idea, write it down, take time to research how it can happen, connect with like-minded/trustworthy people to catch the vision and then set a timeline of execution. What sets my brands
and businesses apart from others is my passion for purposeful and impactful business culture. I don’t just focus on getting money, I look to see how I can help fulfil a need that will last long after I have finished my portion of the work.
I love to take the visions people have and talk them through the process of helping them reach goals in their business. The nature of my work includes but is not limited to; Photography, Graphic Design, Product Design & Development, Web Design & Maintenance, Personal Shopper | Stylist, Social Media Management and Re-Branding to name a few.
I am so excited about launching a collective Entrepreneurial Podcast & Talkshow with 2 other amazing purpose-repreneurs.
We are all on various parts of our entrepreneurial journey and have a wealth of knowledge to share with our new #wechoosepurpose community. We will be collabing and inviting many different guests to pour into our community and membership club to build us all up as business owners.
My journey to and through entrepreneurship has not been easy, but it has been the best road I could have taken. God and my family have carried me through the journey of toxic workplaces, Layoffs and eventually running 2 businesses full-time. It would probably take a book to explain my whole journey, but for now, I will say I have gotten this far professionally by the grace of God, My Support systems and living each day purposefully and intentionally.
A few challenges I have come up against as a creative and entrepreneur is taking on too much and in turn, becoming overwhelmed and burnt out. If you are a business owner you understand that with a service-based or product-based business you need clients to survive. Most of us take this approach; You take on as many clients or orders as possible knowing that you are the only one running the show and it’s too early ( not yet in the budget) to hire someone to help you but you desperately need the heelp! Chile, I had to stop and evaluate my mental health. I had to understand that I have a cap. I cannot take on every client or task and still run 2 businesses with efficiency. So, I have buckled down with managing my time, tasks, started to budget out and seek help and set limits for what I can and can’t do.
I consider myself as an authentic and transparent person, you can ask me anything about my life and I will tell you all the tea if it helps you in your journey. I have built my life around building others up ad inspiring people to understand nothing is impossible. My favourite Scripture is Jeremiah 29: 11. It describes my life and what I want others to be inspired by when they see me. My entire journey begins and ends with God, He has led and directed me with every vision and venture that I have set on. I know that nothing is impossible because he is with me in every step of my journey!
