We had the good fortune of connecting with Quamere and Shanice Rooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quamere and Shanice, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In short, risk taking for us, has been a process of growth and unlearning habits. Growing up, it was instilled from an early age that higher education is the only way to be successful and obtain financial stability. Many times, we tend to follow what we see or are exposed to, and that played a major part in how we understood risks. I believe the fear of the unknown and lack of understanding held us back from reaching for our true potential. Well that all changed this year, when we had a few unexpected tragedies that prompted us to re-evaluate if we are truly living or just waiting for the “right time” to step out on faith and believe in ourselves. As you can see, we decided to take that risk, and became the first in our respective families, to make that leap and become the owners of Posh360 Events.
Taking risks can be rewarding, however, it can also be challenging. It has helped us learn so much about business, but also about ourselves. It has given us the ability to make decisions solely for our progression and not out of survival. It has allowed us to grow a different perspective about business, life and ultimately the generation that will come after.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Posh360 Events started out as just an idea me and my wife had to help bring in extra income. Prior to embarking on this journey, we were both employed in law enforcement. We used to believe that the true luxury in life was money, however law enforcement quickly changed that belief. We realized the true luxury was time. Having two children and being family oriented people, can quickly become overtaken by the day-to-day work environment. In short, along with other issues, it just was not going to work for us. We get one life and do we really want to spend most of it working? We knew one thing for sure, timing would never be perfect, but time would continue to go on regardless what we decided. In June 2021, we decided to pursue our business idea full time. Entrepreneurship was a totally new world for us, but it has been the best decision we have made. Our business has allowed us to truly be who we are and given us a second opportunity at living. Posh360 Events is not only about capturing those feel good moments, we like to provide and be apart of them too. We service weddings, corporate, and prom events. amongst others, and while our photo booths, photographers and event set ups bring the sparkle, our personalities and professionalism maintain the flare. Through our brand we strive to bring the joy of truly “living in the moment” back to your event.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One place and one place only: Iron Age Korean BBQ located in Duluth. We like to consider ourselves to be foodies, and you can not go wrong with an all you can eat Beef Bulgogi!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to give a shoutout to our son, Jacobi, and daughter, Ava. They have been a driving source in motivation and inspiration for us. They continue to inspire us to be the best version of ourselves, and we take pride in exposing them to different options and opportunities they may not have experienced otherwise. We also would like to thank Sandra and our parents Lancelot, Francene, and Annette for continuing to support and assist us throughout this whole process.
