We had the good fortune of connecting with Temika Brackins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Temika, how do you think about risk?
I am so glad you asked! I am more of a Faith taker, believing in the things that are unseen is definitely a risk to me. My entire career and life has been to take risk and those risk has been successful. In 2019, I took a risk and shut all of my businesses down to relocate to Georgia. I moved to Georgia from Wisconsin with no family, no friends, no clients and went from Over Looked to Over Booked in 90 days. I would definitely encourage others to take risk if you have enough faith your risk will be well worth it in the end!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is I don’t stop learning and investing in myself as well as my Education. I became a Licensed Cosmetologist in 2014, a Licensed Cosmetology Manager in 2015, a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor in 2017 and a Hair Loss Practitioner in 2021. I am most proud of relocating in 2019 from Wisconsin to Georgia and successfully opening up my salon Slay Masters Beauty Bar through the entire pandemic. March 2020 I also started my own product line which is Meka’s Miracle Growth. The products help people with Hair loss or Damaged Hair. I created these products because I understand the struggles of hair and not being able to manage it along with having to buy multiple products and not knowing what they are for or how to use them. August 2021 I launched my Academy which is Slay Master’s Beauty Academy where I teach other beauty professional how to become a Hair Loss Specialist and Go from Over Looked to Over Booked how to relocate and rebuild in 90 days.
I got to where I am today by first trusting God. Next writing the vision and making it plain, determination and execution. I have continued to invest in myself and my business and this year I also hired a Business Coach that helps me to execute my vision with my Academy. It was not an easy journey but nothing comes easy it takes long days, long nights, sleepless nights, lots of money, sacrifice and discipline. I overcame all challenges by believing in myself and keep the scripture Jeremiah 29 close to my heart. For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, for you to prosper. With all things I do it with the love of God on my mind and in my heart.
Some lessons I have learned along the way is other people may not understand your vision because it was giving to you not them. You don’t need your family and friends support strangers will support you if you have a vision. In this life don’t settle with people that are not like minded or not looking to elevate there life. You have to choose if you want to soar with eagles or stand still. Networking is important nobody knows about your business unless you promote it and put in the work.
I want the world to know that I am committed and my brand represents confidence and excellence. I want to help people from all around the world restore there hair and confidence. I want to educate as well as continue to be someone that everyone can look up to for inspiration and influence.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting I would definitely have to visit Texas Roadhouse it’s one of my favorites for food and drinks. I would love to go downtown to visit the Botanical Gardens for great out door scenery, Stone Mountain to conquer the climb and just see how determined they are. I love to do anything that consist of being creative so I enjoy sip and paints, looking a beautiful scenery and writing. Some of the most exciting people to me are entrepreneurs and business owners they work hard and there mind sets are just different. I have been in Georgia for two years so I am still exploring myself.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my Husband Joseph and our 4 children Tamiya, Ta’Lajah, Jayden and Jeremiah. I truly thank them for their love and support on my journey. Never giving up on me, encouraging me to take risk and elevate. I truly thank my Husband because he is my builder. He brings all of my visions to life and I appreciate his partnership. I appreciate my family understanding my sacrifice and the investments that I make. I also appreciate all of my clients and my customer I wouldn’t be this far without there motivation and support as well.
