We had the good fortune of connecting with Cinderella A Uduh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cinderella, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my faith in God, focusing my energy towards my purpose and maintaining a fearless nature. I graduated spelman college in the midst of an economic rescission and quickly realized that nothing was guaranteed and opportunity is for those who earnestly seek it. I started Spice Affairs as resolution to the volatile instability that the corporate sector was subjecting my self and many of my fellow graduates. Spice Affairs became a representation of my will to do better for my family and future children, Although I wasn’t sure how I was going to build a successful business, I knew I wanted real economic development within my community and I recognize that what I learned from corporate America would help me establish a profitable sustainable business structure and pass that knowledge to friends and families, building my village one business at a time.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business started as me running away from corporate America and then it has now developed into providing best practices for startups and fellow entrepreneurs on staying economical, profitable and productive. My business is about teaching small business owners the tricks to the game to help them stay profitable through mastering lean marketing practices, productiveness through systems and processes that can be reduplicated and ensuring that their creative representation of their business maintains. Many of the challenges is what I’m teaching At first seemed obscure to potential clients and so explaining the value took a lot of patience and perseverance. But now in the current economic climate being competitive means understanding the market in new ways and also being frugal in that growth process. I am now seeing that what I am teaching is being well received and my commitment to excellence have helped me along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend of mine were visiting the Atlanta Metro area I would only need a couple days to convince them that this is the most dynamic diverse city in the country. We would first check out some of the wonderful rooftop eateries at Ponce city market or a nice patio at Port Calvin‘s for brunch. We then would take a scooter to Piedmont Park and enjoy music from the local jazz festival. We would head over to East Atlanta for some delicious Irish bar food and hop around until we were exhausted. The next day we wake up early and head up to Stone Mountain go for a nice hike and come back down, shoot the hooch and float all the way down for the rest of the afternoon with an ice cold bear or mini champagne bottle munching on Publix subs and potato chips.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have had the courage to set out on this entrepreneurial journey with out the love and support of my Nigerian Immigrant parents. My company is named after our family cookbook and serves as a constant reminder of my heritage and the sacrifices made to afford me the opportunity to start my empire. I am grateful for my Spelman Sisters for supporting my businesses and praying for me when I wasn’t even sure what was up or down. I am appreciative for my many business partners and associates that show proof in their commitment to excellence, allowing me to be even more fearless.
