Meet Boy Lucca | Rapper, Producer & Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Boy Lucca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Boy Lucca, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
People that I recorded, usually my friends would say that they love recording at my house and didn’t want to book anywhere else. I have a passion for getting the most out of a creative project and trying to do new things and add certain sounds people haven’t heard before. Getting people out of their comfort zone and pushing the creative envelope is what I love doing, so I thought why not make a central spot for that to thrive in.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a bit of unorthodox hip hop elements blended with something else. I produce everything I release for the most part, so I always want to make things I haven’t heard before. As a creative we always need something to satisfy that itch so I try to adapt and learn flow patterns or melodies and incorporate them where I normally wouldn’t see other artists doing. I’ve been most proud of the songs I’ve made since August honestly. Each one is a building block to what I think will be a year of phenomenal music. I got to this point by reaching out and seeing what can happen. I was working a dead end job and I randomly emailed 10 studios looking for interns, two hit me back and I quit my job to intern. There I met an artist “F.L.O.E,” who introduced me to “Hickman L.A.” “Alan Z” etc. and from there on music just started to flow with the opportunities. It wasn’t easy, but at some point if you really want something in life you have to take that leap and make it happen. I’ve learned that good music isn’t all you need. You need people in your corner, along with a brand that sets you as an individual. Having an original one of a kind artist name is paramount in cutting through the mist of searching for someone. I want people to know Boy Lucca is an artist and brand that reflects self sustaining good music created from family ties that will always be evolving to set itself as an individual sound.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have people come visit, we are for sure stopping by Tropical Caribbean Cuisine down in Norcross. It’s the best food this side of ATL for sure. Honestly I would take a drive down to Saint George Island in FL to relax on a nice small island for a low price. I moved to ATL a year ago and still don’t know the best locations around the city, I’ve been a hermit in the lab trying to focus on music 110%

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly I would have to place my dad above everyone for that. He’s been a musician for over 40 years and has encouraged and supported me the whole journey so far. He was never a fan of rap until I started showing him more and more of the art, and he never told me I couldn’t make it. He sold land to put me through engineering school and he’s been the guy in the corner cheering me on at every achievement I’ve made. He gave me the confidence and the life skills to get what I want out of life, and there’s no way I think I could ever repay him. He made me the man I am today, and his inspiration ignites the creative in me. Having someone like that, especially a parent is truly a gift in this world, and I’m grateful everyday.
