We had the good fortune of connecting with Ritzy Chester and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ritzy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first started High Class Society I was 23 and a new mother. I wanted to create a safe place for motivate women to focus on self care. Honestly, I didn’t have any money to put behind this big vision of mine. I knew I wanted to create something that made me and women like myself feel better about themselves. Black women have a tendency to forget about themselves but take care of everyone around them and I wanted to create a place where it was cool to handle business but not forget yourself in the process. We as black women have to normalize putting ourselves first. So I created High Class Society – a place where beautiful women on the inside feel and look beautiful on the outside.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
High Class Society is an online one stop shop for all things beauty, When I first started in 2018 I only sold bundles and would travel as far as my car would take me to make sells. As time went on and the more I hustled my business expanded. My business began to grow professionally and I grew as an entrepreneur. I made mistakes and I lost a lot of money. For a while I spent way more than I made. I remember taking all the money I would make from my 9-5 just to invest in High Class Society- I believed in it then and even more so now. All the losses I took I turned into lessons so I don’t regret anything that may have felt like a set back in the past. Now I see that in order to feel the wins you have to know what a loss feels like. Fast forward to 2021, High Class Society has grown! We now have hair accessories, ready to wear wigs, hot tools, hair extensions for most hair types, and cosmetics. In addition to the growth of our online beauty supply store High Class Society has also grown as a brand. Ritzy’s Peaces, created in 2020, is an online Jewelry and Accessory shop. I created Ritzy’s Peaces to help women keep up with today’s trends. Here you can find gold tarnish free jewelry and “peaces” that set you apart at an affordable price.

If there’s anything I would want High Class Society to be known for it would be Luxury and Accessibility.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Jersey girl and the good thing about being from Jersey is that you can get anywhere in any time. When friend’s come to see me we live like city girls do. Subways and trains straight to the city! In these NY streets you can find the best the best vibes. My fav place to hang out is Harlem. I love being with my people and the city has done a great job of keeping its authentic black pride and history. I love to go to Blvd Bistro on Sundays and Red Rooster on Fridays or Saturdays. There are art galleries and exhibits all over the city, you’ll be so surprised the connections you’ll make just by hanging out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout all the dope strong black women who have led me this far and will continue to guide me to greatness. Specifically my late great grandmother, my grandmother, my mother, and two aunts. Each of their own individual stories have been the biggest contribution to my own personal story. Because of their support and sacrifice I am who I am. Strong, Black, Beautiful, and Resilient. If I could sum it all up I would say because of them my success has no cap, the sky is the limit.
