We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We were in the discussion of starting a podcast for quite some time. We were originally wanting more people on board for the podcast, but it ended up being just the two of us (KT and GualaMeetsWorld). We are both in separate locations, so the thought process of getting 1409 Podcast started was a little different from most. We had to do trial and error until we finally got the right recipe to our growing platform. Our podcast is mostly done virtually through a live stream platform (Streamyard). Episodes are broadcasted live on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter several times per week. We interview business owners, entrepreneurs, musicians and many other creators around the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We not only host regular podcast episodes, but we also conduct recordings in multiple cities and cover different events. We have recorded multiple episodes in South Carolina, Houston and Atlanta. Open mic events have recently been added to the list of events that have covered. We are most proud of the compliments and encouragement that we receive from our supporters. We are also proud of the out come of our hosted events. Things become challenging at times, because there’s usually just two of us making great things happen. This includes planning, promotion, and production. We learned many lessons from the technical difficulties that we had earlier in our process. We want the world to know that anything is possible. You can do anything that you desire, as long as you put in the effort.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
“Slutty Vegan”is a great spot to try out. Those plant based burgers are epic. Sea Salt Seafood Lounge is a great place to grab food and drinks. Many Atlanta locals also say that Atlanta is home of the best strip clubs, so that would be a great experience Top Golf is a good place to meet and have some fun with or without golf experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We definitely have to thank our supporters. Their support and interaction is a major motivator for keeping this show in motion. “Black Privilege” by Charlamagne is one of the books that definitely brought inspiration. In this book, he mentioned how he had to do a lot of free work, before his career as an entertainer really started to take off. We are always keeping this in mind by trusting the process and not trying to chase every penny.
