We had the good fortune of connecting with Jean-Yves Aubone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jean-Yves, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was a combination of things.

First, I was trying to find more flexibility in my schedule. I spent a few years working in an environment where I had to be working at certain times, and unfortunately those certain times were from early morning til evening. It left me with no life to live. I couldn’t do anything I needed to do for myself or my family during the week. Then at night or on weekends a lot of things were closed. It was frustrating.

Then because I worked so much, I was exhausted in the evenings. I was home but I was a zombie. Since I had no flexibility, I couldn’t do anything to have more energy when I wasn’t working.

Finally, I wanted more control over the structure of things. When you work for a corporation, it’s extremely difficult to change things. You can voice your thoughts for change but it’s almost pointless. Once I figured that out, I knew the only way I could be happy is if I started my own business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve made it to where I am by an incredible amount of sacrifice. I dedicated my life to tennis when I was 14 years old. At that point, I decided to home school all 4 years of high school so I could spend as much time practicing as possible. Then I played college tennis. I played professional tennis. Now I’ve been coaching a professional tennis player for almost 4 years now. Tennis has been at the forefront of my life an extraordinary amount of time, and that experience has put me in the position I’m in today.

It hasn’t been easy because I’ve missed so many of my family and friends events. I’ve missed weddings, birthdays, holidays, everything. There were many times where I wondered if it was worth it. I just kept believing that when the time is right, everything will line up.

The most important lesson I learned was to work with others. So many people have helped me at different times. I will never know everything so it’s important when I’m stuck to look for advice. It’s okay to not know things. It’s not okay to fail because I was stubborn and didn’t want to admit I was wrong.

If there’s anything I want people to think about when it comes to me or my brand are the words caring and honest. I think it’s the best and only way to truly serve people. It’s the best way to get people to trust you, and once they trust you, the real progress begins.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
These are my favorite spots in the city:

Inman Park
Krog Street Market and the beltline
The Battery
Chattahoochee Coffee Company on the river
Piedmont Park

Favorite Restaurants
Umi
Antico Pizza
Havana Sandwich Shop
Tacos La Villa

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife and my family deserve so much credit for what I’m doing. They’ve sacrificed so much to give me the opportunity to purse my dreams and advance my career. I’ve been spending the last few years traveling 30 weeks a year. That’s been really hard for my wife and I. Without her patience and support, there’s no way I would be where I am.
