We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenika Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Tidied by K back in June of 2019. Prior to starting TBK as a side hustle, I had jumped around in professions for years. I found myself in the classroom right after college as a first-grade teacher, then a financial analyst for a nonprofit healthcare system, and then a data manager for a nonprofit education organization. Although I was successful in my roles, I did not feel that I was “called” in the work I was doing. I ventured into looking for ideas elsewhere on how to create something for myself that I enjoyed and make a living from it.
It wasn’t until my mom introduced me to a show on Netflix, “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo” that a lightbulb went off for me. I watched a couple of the episodes and knew from there that I wanted to start my own professional organizing business.
I started digging around and researching the industry and when I saw that this was a growing and thriving industry, I started that weekend!
Personally, I’m an all-in type of person. Once I commit to something, I’m committed- starting my business was no different. My journey into entrepreneurship has been exciting, fast-paced, and rewarding.

After years of working in other fields, I found my calling as a professional home organizer and launched my first business in June 2019. I started shortly after learning about the home organizing industry and have been working hard to grow my business and brand since. I’m extremely proud of the growth I’ve seen in such a short time. I’ve been blessed to help over 100 families/individuals with my services, I’ve inspired hundreds (and maybe thousands) of people to transform the way they do home- it’s simply amazing the impact I’ve been blessed to have since starting my entrepreneurship journey.
Running a business is no easy feat. It requires daily decision-making, long hours, a strong work ethic, and a positive mindset. I say all the time, entrepreneurship is 50% mindset, 25% strategy, and 25% implementation. Mindset has been the biggest challenge and is something I focus on daily to ensure I reach my goals.
My strategy for maintaining a positive mindset around business is repeating my affirmations, journaling, and reverse engineering my goals so I can accomplish them.
Along my business journey, I’ve learned one of the most valuable habits I have is my level of consistency. I have adopted the belief that if I work “it” will work. Therefore, I remain consistent in my efforts until it works.
My aspiration for my business is to inspire my community to create a home environment they love and enjoy being in. I had a transient upbringing and never felt tied to one environment. As an adult, I know the significance of living in an environment that fills your cup. My hope is that the Tidied by K brand can help more and more people create a home they have pride in.
