We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate & Chasity Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate & Chasity, what are you inspired by?
Being that we have five kids we are inspired by the idea of creating generational wealth and opportunities for them as well as others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I (Chasity) have always been into art and creating so when I started learning to decorate cakes in high school I instantly enjoyed it. When I had my first daughter I decided to try and make her 3rd birthday cake. It was a success so from there I began making all of her cakes. Every one enjoyed them so I started making them for different events and that’s what got me to where I am today. I believe what sets me apart from others is my willingness to try new flavors and decorating techniques. There definitely have been some challenges along the way and times where I have wanted to give up. But I think about all the customers that count on me to bring that special creative, sweet part of there celebration. It also helps to have people in your corner cheering for you and not letting you give up. Reminding you there is always a solution to the problem at hand. I want the world to know if they have a goal in mind to keep pushing towards that goal. It may be hard but the results are so rewarding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting I would definitely take them downtown to the water front. Its a beautiful and relaxing place to hang out and enjoy the views. There a couple of fountains, one being the famous pineapple fountain. From the water front you can see the Ravenel Bridge, Fort Sumpter, and Yorktown. Our family enjoys riding the water taxi to enjoy the water. You can get a close up of York town. You may also spot some dolphins on the water taxi or along the water front. If you walk up about a half a mile there is the Charleston Battery. Another spot for beautiful water and dolphin views, There is also a park perfect for picnics. I would also take them to the Charleston City Night Market that is held on the weekend nights. There they have artists and artisans that sell there hand made goods. You are sure to find some unique things there. I would go to King Street where all the best shopping takes place. I would take them to eat at a new found restaurant called Chubby Fish. Another favorite restaurant we would go to is Cuban Gypsy Cafe where they have the best Cuban food. We would also go on a Gullah tour to learn about the hidden history of Charleston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to dedicate our shoutout to the everyday entrepreneur that wake up everyday to pursue their dreams! We have been working on our business for 10+ years and it’s not easy. There are challenges that arise in your personal and professional life. Often family and “friends” don’t support your idea or try to discourage them but there is no better feeling than to see the fruits of your labor! Put God or whatever higher power you believe in first, put in the work and trust the process and you will be fine!
