Meet Krystle Pierce | Stand Up Comedian and Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystle Pierce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystle, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is being authentic and fearless in sharing my story in my jokes. Comedy gives me a chance to show people who I am. I love being able to show that black women are not a monolith. There is no normal, we are all unique and I love that I am able to show this through laughter and something that I love.

I am able to speak up on cultural and social issues, not just through stand-up, but through my podcast, web series, writing and even through interviews like this.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to where I am professionally just by staying consistent, managing my time, and constantly working on my craft. It is not easy because the one thing you need as a comedian s great time management not just on stage but off. How can you maximize your day while having to juggle work and life.

In the beginning, I struggled with just telling stories. I had to learn how to turn a story into structured jokes. You have to be able to get it and get out. I have a background in sales and was able to use some of the skills I learned there and translate them to comedy.

Additionally, comedy has taken me out of my comfort zone. As a comedian, you want to be able to make people of diverse crowds laugh. So, I try to do any room that I can and try to find a set that can appeal to that crowd. It is challenging, but has pushed me to be more creative and a better performer.

What I would want the world to know is that if you come to a show or watch a short written by me you will go on a journey often uncomfortable but entertaining and hilarious.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Atlanta to hang out would be the High Museum of Art, Beltline, and East Atlanta Village. Whenever I have friends visiting from out of town I usually take them for a hike at Sope creek, live karaoke at Darkhorse Tavern, drinks on the roof at Hotel Clermont, and games at Joystick.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is definitely influential on me and comedy. My parents and older sister are very odd themselves. They helped to shape me, introducing me to different types of music and experiences.

My friends also challenge me and have made me realize that I am capable of much more. I love showing them how much their words have meant to me and have manifested in the creation of more comedic outlets.

There are also other comedians that have taught me about how to create a brand and taught me that it is important to network and connect with other people on a professional and human level.

I hope that I can also be these things for someone else.
