We had the good fortune of connecting with Kprecia Ambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kprecia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Pre-covid, balance didn’t exist much but I didn’t realize it. My schedule revolved around my workflow. That meant waking up, maybe eating breakfast, hoping on my laptop and working while movies or music played in the background. I aimed for lunch, but it was also okay to skip and eat late or snack. By the time I stopped working, my night owl hours kicked in and I could finally decompress with dancing, music or movies. I was creating a schedule based on the idea society teaches, if you’re not working than you are lazy”.
The me now, prioritizes my mental, physical, and spiritual within my workflow. When the lock down occurred and I found myself mentally screaming for a break between a heavy workload, personal losses, and my city burning in pain I felt a stuck. No longer was my desire to work every hour, but instead explore self-care. For the first time I wanted to work out solely for the purpose to treat myself and mentally decompress. It felt freeing! From there this energy flowed into a new perspective of life. I had a moment and realized my brand is me and I am my brand. I can control stress by running my business in a way that truly fits me. I am fully in control of when I wake up, how I communicate with clients, and how I choose to think. There is no standard of success I need to fulfill. My balance comes from my happiness. This means choosing to set aside time to pour love into myself, so I am better able to show up as a person.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud or excited for my new found self-love and to see how it will continue to translate into my business. Kp Inspires aims to encourage self-love through storytelling and illustration. I love celebrating stories and the talents of people to show others their story has power. There is beauty in being human and we are all capable of many things. As my confidence continues to grow it will allow me to show up even more in business and for others. I am living my dream and I am excited to see what will flourish from it.
In the beginning of my career, I felt lost. I graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, but during my senior year I developed an interest in surface design. I started doing my own research, connecting with artist, and much more to progress, which was great! A problem I had during this time was trying to make my path go the way I felt it should. I wanted to do it the “right way” and make “smart choices”. When I set out to make my own project I often felt overwhelmed and put too much control over my creative direction.
Looking back at my journey and I see there is no right or wrong way. Everyone’s path is different, but the way I choose to carry my energy matters. That’s a lesson I keep with me now. Growth can be scary and everyday we wake is a new beginning. There is no way to prepare for situations I never encounter, but I can control my outlook. Being humble, knowing there is always a good to a bad, and that growth will occur, makes me feel there is no limit to life. When aware I aim to let go of control of how ideas/plans will be executed. Life hasn’t gotten easier, but I have found ways to better approach life stressors. The support I receive and mindset I carry, I feel has overall positively impacted my art journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have yet to truly dive into the beauty of my Minneapolis. With that in mind I would take advantage of that and create an exploration agenda. My goal would be to explore and support black owned restaurants, shops, and events. The Itinerary would consist of visiting at least one black owned restaurant each day and pushing to attend events or new activities such as bike riding, sip & paint, visiting a waterfall, shop local, and other creative ideas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shutout to my family for always being supportive of me. Never once did they question if I would own a business, instead they were ready to support. I am very thankful for their love and to every client, business, and friend who has and continues to support me including, ShoutOut Atlanta. I value relationships and connecting with businesses and individuals who also aim to support.
