We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Hurvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business was to make a different within our youth. I have children apart of my gym from all walks of life. Some I couldn’t imagine turning my back on because that’s all they have seen since day one. I wanted to make a change within a young girl or boy life who never saw themselves attending college. I wanted to give hope to those who never really had it. The Allstar Gym is looking to change up the Allstar Cheer World. We want to add more minorities to the sport.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As the first African American Allstar Cheer Gym owner in Arkansas my goal was to build a gym of love for the athletes and a family. Many of our community kids could only watch allstar cheer competitions on ESPN. The Allstar Gym has allowed those same kids to be able to be apart of the sport. Allstar Cheer is known to be one of the most expensive sport for our youth. Over the years we didn’t find many African American within the sport. My goal and dream is that we make a change and we allow others to see our culture share the same love of cheer.

While in high school I choreography for years for cheer and dance teams. In my senior year of high school I won my 1st cheer and dance competition. To see the smiles and joy within my athletes was truly an experience. After high school I went own to volunteer with other schools in the area because I had found my love for the sport was something I couldn’t let go. I went one to win titles after titles. In 2019 I opened the doors to my very own Allstar Cheer Gym. Not many in my culture knew what Allstar Cheer was. The thought is that I would show them there is more to life within our community. For the young girl who is feeling low, no where to go, needing an outlet in life, we welcome you. For the young boy who think that cheer was only made for girls, who is tired of seeing young men living a street life, we welcome you. The Allstar Gym is a safe place for our youths who is wanting a change.

I started out with only 23 athletes. I thought to myself, I’m leaving it in god hands and what’s for me is for me. As of today I have 91 athletes. We are not only a allstar gym, most of all we are family. Every season our goal is that we inspire more young girls and boys that’s in the community fighting for change to join a gym.

The All-star Gym right now is an ALL African American athlete gym. Although we welcome others, we have not had any luck with getting them to want to be apart of change. It’s a challenge to get others to want to join us but we just pray that this world become more of a family as we live each and every day within The Allstar gym. If I could think of a struggle is that as an African American I once had an athlete tell me, while walking into competitions we don’t see many people who look like us, it sometimes feels as if we have walked into the wrong place. After hearing that every day I let my athletes know they are just as good as anyone else within this sport. We will never see color but only see talent.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Welcome To the Natural State, I have a full day plan for us and hope you enjoy it.

I’m a early bird so 1st lets stop for coffee at Starbucks. Let’s not eat just yet because Its Sunday and we have reservation for brunch at YAYA’S my FAV. A high end buffet with any and everything you can think to have for brunch, they have it!

After brunch I would lets spend a day over at the gym getting to know some of my favorite little people in the world. My athletes. I have a total of 6 teams however on Sunday 4 teams practice. Come see what it is we do.

Since tomorrow is Monday I have planned for us to visit my stomping ground where I went to high school. The Historical Little Rock Central High. Home of the Tigers.

It’s Tuesday and we all know what that mean Taco Tuesday. My girlfriends and I love to hang out at each other house and make our own tacos and margaritas. You will love them Jessica, Ashley, Tinka, and Rosh, Some of my best friend and most genuine people you will ever meet.

Well Wednesday lets head downtown for a walk and shuttle view of the city. I love hanging out at the roof top of Cache. It’s a social night life style, music, drink and great bar bites.

Thursday we have a painting with the twist to do then head back to my place to pack because we are headed to the lake in Hot Springs.

Life is good
its the weekend and we are hanging on the lake with Mojitos, loud music on the boat and relaxing.

Back to Little Rock we go it’s Saturday and its Blues on the River. A good time, with good food and nice crowd.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I shoutout to none other my mom. Beverly Hurvey. A single mother of 3 who took on more kids and sibling after the passing of her mom (who was also a single mom) and truly did the best she could. A mom who is proud of my business and is my biggest cheerleader each and every day. She has always been my mentor, support and friend. I truly can’t thank her enough.
