We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Barney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miranda, how do you think about risk?
Risk is a danger, chance or a feeling of uncertainty, something that can cause harm. When I take risk, it is normally a calculated risk however I have taken risks on impulse. In my life sometimes I make impulsive decisions, which can be a risk. I have learned that using a more calculated approach to risk taking has been more beneficial to my career and life experiences.

In 2011 I bought a business from a man who was ready to retire, he had owned his business for over 15 years. He created a bartending course where he teaches people how to become a certified bartender. During that time I had just recently got laid off from my job, it was during the recession. I took his course and received a certification of completion. I had a vision to own the school and the vision to streamline the business and create a new curriculum. My goal was to find recession proof work or invest some of my retirement money to hopefully produce a good return on that investment. I took the risk to use my retirement money to buy a business that had no accounting records to show how much revenue has the business generated over the 15 plus years the owner was operating.

The risk paid off, but it was not easy. I was a first-time business owner with little to no experience at the time. I was also attending college to obtain my BS in Business. I sold the business after 4 years of my ownership, I made my retirement investment back 3 times over. I learned a lot from that experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
I embody versatility! As a kid I was told I am destined to go as far as I apply myself. It’s amazing to love what you do while helping people & learning from people I encounter along the way. When I look back over my adult professional career, I worked in a corporate for 9 years as manager. I trained over 300 people during that period. After working in corporate I became an entrepreneur owning 2 successful businesses. I flipped one of the businesses and sold in 2014. I am currently the owner and operator to Wi$E Accounting, LLC approaching year 2 in business. Year 1 was a little rough due to the pandemic however I am happy to say by having to pivot I would not have had a successful first year. All products and services are virtual, I have developed processes and procedures to operate the business efficiently remotely. I am looking to expand Wi$E Accounting in 2022.


Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I reside in Georgia, so with that said we would definitely go to a few amazing restaurants/lounges. Atlanta is known for having great places to eat. Going to a wine tasting & spa is on that itinerary. I would love to also do something adventurous, ziplining or paint gun shooting adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tony James was my mentor during this time of my life, Tony and Dominique Maddox were able to assist in brokering the deal for me to purchase an existing business. My kids played a part, they motivate me daily, when I look at my kids it fuels me to keep moving and create a life we can enjoy. Ultimately, without prayer and staying tuned in to my faith; without prayer and working hard I am not sure how all that I‘ve accomplished would have happened.
