We had the good fortune of connecting with D.O.L.O. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D.O.L.O., what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk…Hmm. Over time I would say not being more eager to take risk earlier on in life has led me to miss out on certain opportunities. I never was scared to challenge myself, but I would always move toward something guaranteed or had a proven route to success. With my music career and all of my other business ventures nothing has been guaranteed. Everything is based on faith and taking the ultimate risk. I had to let myself know no one else is going to build this amazing future I want. Furthermore, taking the safe route leaves room for thoughts of “If I had done this….. If I had done that…”, but I’m the type of person who hates regrets so I try not to leave any for myself. Over time I have grown better at just going for whatever needs to be done and it has helped tremendously. I’m very much less afraid to invest in something and hit my head on the wall. Its like I’ve built up a tolerance so fear and doubt doesn’t automatically take over when new ventures come up. Ever since realizing what taking REAL risk meant, I feel more prepared for the unknown and from now on I’m ready to take it there every time to succeed at my objectives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music and sound is like no other. I mean, yeah you probably can find someone to compare the sound of my voice to like anybody else, but my music is in a class of its own. The verbiage I choose to use, my beat selection, the wit I try to place within the rhyme scheme is something I don’t hear a lot of these days. I hold myself to a way higher standard when it comes to writing songs, hence why I try not to just call myself a rapper, I’m a lyricist above all. Of course the road to being labeled as such wasn’t easy. I used to rap battle high school seniors and juniors when I was in the 6th and 7th grade, scared out my mind. I used to try and make my own beats, write, record myself, shoot my own videos…..trash. The most important lesson I learned on this road to success is you NEED help… the PROPER help, Don’t be to proud to ask for help to get somewhere faster and to learn more. Don’t be close minded because you haven’t tried it. Stick to your true goals, be open to change, and have fun. Once I took this formula in I started being way more creative and making more hits!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the A…?? First thing first we going to blow a bag at Mall of Georgia. Next we hitting up all the vegan spots around the city like, Bad Gyal Vegan, GASFoodtruckatl, Viva La Vegan, Wonderful Tasting Food (WTF), Chelsea’s Bakery, Harmony Vegetarian, and a lot more.. I can go all day. After that we definitely hitting the club/lounge scene….too many to name IYKYK. Depending on the time of the year though I would slide down to the beach in Savannah or to the mountains in Blue Ridge/Hiwassee to go jet skiing or shoot some dope footage. I have lived in almost every corner of GA, so a week really isn’t long enough to experience the state the real way. The last thing I would suggest is to get some bikes and ride the beltline around the city and get lit off some drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout most definitely has to go to my family and supporters. Through thick and thin they have been there supporting my music and all of my antics toward this music industry I love so much. From my parents dealing with hearing me make music from way back in the day and bugging the heck out of them, to my sisters hearing my verses over and over as I practiced getting my flow down, to my brothers who had and still have my back till the end because we on this road together… All of these people made me who I am today. I have a very big extended family so I have to make them proud at the end of the day. I want their efforts, prayers, and everything they hoped for me to go right, so I have to go hard and big them up every chance I get. Long Live Elon Frett! This is his movement. He started it all so I have no choice but to make sure goes on.
