We had the good fortune of connecting with Janee Paige and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Unlike other entrepreneurs, I did not have a grand business plan or implementation strategy to start my business. My main thought was “IT’S TIME.” As a child, I’ve had this gift but did not understand why or how to hone it. Once I finally figured it out, I knew I wanted to share it with others. I honestly did not do much thinking, I just jumped right into it. I created my website, social media accounts, and got started. Thankfully, I have a great support system of family and friends that have shared my business, allowing me to share my gift on a larger scale.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Maya Angelou once famously said, “If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” This quote personifies what sets me apart from others – the fact that I have learned to embrace my uniqueness. My ability to connect and communicate with spirits from a different realm is unique and a special gift. By tapping into that gift and using different methods and resources, I am able to deliver readings and messages to my clients from their Ancestors and Spirit Guides. Being in the position to help them in their day-to-day lives, provide guidance, or the closure they need is one of the best feelings in the world.
I have not always been as comfortable with the uniqueness I possess, and that has been the biggest hurdle to overcome professionally. I consider myself an extroverted introvert, so coming out of my shell to share my gift with the world was a difficult challenge. Knowing that people would not understand what I do and being met with judgement scared me, but I knew my purpose was bigger than my fear. I overcame this hurdle by simply taking a leap of faith. I knew it would not be easy, but it was necessary to get a step closer to fulfilling my purpose. There were many lessons learned along the way, but the biggest one was not to second-guess myself. Not to toot my own horn, but I am good at my job and not walking in my gift would be doing a disservice to not only myself, but also the people that could benefit from it.

What I really want the world to know about my business, RJHS, LLC, is that it is authentic. I am authentically operating in a gift that I was blessed with, and I am using that gift to bless others. I named my business after my mother, Robin Jeanette Hall Smith, because although she is no longer physically with us, she is the backbone and laid the foundation for my business. My entire life she encouraged me to “share the gift that God gave me with the world,” and I take pride in being able to fulfill her wishes every single day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My husband and I live in Wendell, North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh, which is the Capital City of the Tar Heel State. Being so close to Raleigh affords us the ability to participate in big city life, or stay in Wendell and take advantage of that small town charm. I am every bit of a homebody, so I don’t do much out of the house. When I do venture out, one of our favorite places to hangout is STIR in the Midtown District of Raleigh. Their brunch on Sundays has a chill vibe that sets the tone for the remainder of the week, and their mimosas help add a little flare to the day. We also love to visit La Rancherita on Six Forks Road or El Señor in Knightdale for their queso dip and margarita specials during the week. Flying Biscuit Café in the Village District is a tasty Saturday morning breakfast spot, and Seven Springs Farm and Vineyard in Norlina, North Carolina, which just an hour north of Wendell, is a great way to end the week. They are a small family owned and operated farm and vineyard, and they host events with wine, live music and food from local caterers weekly. If we are not out and about, we are at home, spending time with family and friends having good drinks, good food, and playing intense games of Uno and Spades.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Kevin and my mother, Robin!
Kevin and I got married November 3, 2018, and we were quickly thrusted from the honeymoon phase into the throes of life. Dealing with several familial issues and launching a new business could have turned what was supposed to be one of the happiest times of our lives sour, but my husband provided the stability needed to weather those storms. Even in the midst of dealing with all those things, he did not miss a beat and supported me in all my ventures, both personal and professional. He is always there every late night, early morning, and even helps with orders if I need the help. His support is a major factor in my success and the success of my business.
My mother, Robin Jeanette Hall-Smith, is another driving reason why I do what I do and deserves every bit of the glory. Growing up, I often saw things from the spiritual realm that would scare the average child. When I shared who and what I saw with my mom, she always encouraged me, even if it scared her. Her support pushed me to not only accept my gift, but to share it with others. Although I only got to spend a short 30 years with her in this life, the foundation that she laid for me will last several lifetimes.
