We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittny Sweatt & Toni Fuqua and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittny Sweatt & Toni Fuqua, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Our Three Brand Pillars: Camaraderie. Community. Connection sets the tone for the success of Colliding Brands.

Colliding Brands is highlighting something that’s missing in the DMV area: true Community
Building. We have the good of the community at heart. Our community is comprised of so many brilliant black owned businesses that we decided to provide a platform for those businesses to meet their future consumers or clients. Through our purpose-driven events, we show the world it’s acceptable to floss your friends, it’s noteworthy to build black and it’s daring to help move our community forward.

We’ve created a solid space for black owned businesses to collaborate, circulate the dollar in our community, cultivate lasting partnerships and experience black business and black culture on another level.

This is why we Collide Brands!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Colliding Brands is a community organization bringing visibility, resources, and business knowledge to black businesses to enrich growth, collaboration, and community. We believe what sets our business apart is that we focus on the businesses within the DMV community, we foster personal relationships and you’re instantly connected to a tribe of people.

Colliding Brands is committed to helping DMV businesses turn into world known name brands. In the words of Issa Rae, “we’re rooting for everyone black.” We take a different approach by flossing our friends, networking across, building black and extending grace to our business owners when they fall short.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hey Bestie,

We’re so excited that you’re here. We have an itinerary planned for you during your week long stay. The itinerary is subject to know but here are a few places or things you will enjoy:

National Museum of African American and Culture: for everything related to black history.

DC is the mecca for it’s own genre of music GO-GO. Of course, you have to sweat your hair out and dance.

Slide into Union Market for a good smoothie and some bomb photo ops.

Head into Annapolis, MD for what we’re known for- Blue Crabs. Let’s eat seafood on the water.

Let’s eat brunch at Iron Rooster.

We can stroll through the National Harbor and take a boat ride to Old Towne Alexandria. One more thing, we can take a ride on the Ferris Wheel.

We know you’re down to explore nature. We will walk Great White Falls.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to shoutout God and our active community of supporters who we call Colliders. Colliders are unique individuals committed to cultivating their own lane. Our Colliders see our intentional efforts we’re putting into the community and they share and engage. Most importantly our colliders are our talking referrals because they introduce new people to our organization and they show up and support our events. Shout to y’all!
